Repower 6.5m Ally Walkaround - 200hp 4cyl or 225hp V6?

Looking at Suzuki and whether to wait for the new 200HP 4cyl they have just announced (expected later this year) or get their 225HP V6.

http://www.suzukimarine.com/News/2014/01/Suzuki%20indroduces%20a%20New%20200%20HP%20Four%20Cylinder%20Four%20Stroke%20Outboard%20Motor.aspx

Boat currently has a 225HP Suzuki 4 stroke (2004 model) and we are looking at something newer mainly for trips to the Monties etc. Currently does ~41knts flat out and ~27knts at 4100rpm when calm.

Not many figures for fuel yet for the new Suzuki but comparing the Yammie 200HP 4cyl versus V6 it looks like quite noticeable fuel savings could be had.

Leaning towards the new 200HP 4cyl Suzuki, what do you think? We will miss the extra power of the 225hp V6 Suzuki we currently have?

So I question the relevance

I repowered my heavy 6.8 seaquest ally with the top of the range 6cy 225 Yammy 4st................Averaging 0.9 litres per NM and have no idea of top speed as at 40 knots (speed determined from gps) quickly backed off as next to no boat in the water and was skating across a very flat Cockburn Sound with a really twitchy helm.

Was a toss up between the Yammy and the Suzuki but either way I would lean toward the 225

The comparison Yamaha is

The comparison Yamaha is between the older 3.3ltr V6 200hp (yours would be the newer 4.2ltr V6) and the 4 cylinder. Obviously I wont achieve those fuel figures but does show that the new 4 cyl is much more economical a trolling speed and slightly more at cruising speed.

That is great economy you are getting, we get ~ 1.3ltrs per nm at present with the 225hp but it is a 10 year old motor.

Hey mate I have a 7m Ali boat and just put on a inline 4cyl 200 yammy I get 40 knots at wot and cruise at about 25 knots at 4000 rpm I get around 0.9nm per litre of fuel, I love this engine, but you can't really go wrong with a yammy or suzuki these days

Looking at the performance /

Thu, 2014-08-21 16:39

Looking at the performance / comments above, sounds like a 200HP will be plenty for the boat. It is 35kg lighter than the current donk so hopefully will be good for the balance of the boat and a bit safer for towing. If it can get near 1 ltr per nm I will be really happy.

Suzuki website says 5 year warranty for recreational use.
