Deepwater fishing made easy!

With the deepwater fishing and jigging becoming very popular there's no doubt theres a big part of hard yakka with this extreme fishing and often very tedious!

The advancements of electric fishing reels has changed the deepwater fishing and not only made it more assessable but made it sooo much easier. I use a Daiwa one myself and when i get no bites, miss the fish ie drifting, hook a shitty fish and/or hooking greeneye sharks I just press the button. Up comes my jig as thats my prefered way to get em but also ideal for bottom rigs as even with water pressure they come up at a very fast rate. Normal retrieve speed say 100m per minute and up to 130m per minute with a maximum drag of 22kg!

Makes deepwater fishing easy and enjoyable which after many years of doing it the hard way took the shine off a bit but more so when i was wanting to find more new spots. I use the reel normally after hook up and fight all my fish manually as I prefer that but the reel is capable of power assist!

Deepwater!

As for banning the electric reels, that suggestion was thrown out with many other stupid suggestions ie trying to ban recreational craypot powered winches!

Mightymouse, I dont sell the Miya's in my shop but did look at them when i was making my own decission on which one to buy. The line capacity/weight and the tractor look didnt appeal so i went Daiwa!

Madwafisher, all those fish plus many more were caught on my Daiwa electric but fight wise all manually, more rewarding. No bites then my retreive button is pressed very quickly however........grasping technology =)

With the jigging function on them, how does it work? I suspect its not quite the same as the jigging action you'd be using Ryan, so wondered what it does (I suspect just raises and drops, e.g. to give a bit of action to a bait perhaps)?

Dont use!

Sun, 2010-02-14 23:28

Dont know as i dont use the jigging modes on the reel. It has a series of jigging modes/motions that are pre-recorded but I prefer to use my jigging motion!

My version........ just jig like hell and rip up the rod to get my jig moving then they eat it........ =)

Yes - but!

Yes a bit of coin initially but my Daiwa electric has paid for itself after the first season of using it with quality fish, fillets and my enjoyment!

The eyes on the Bass boys pic was barotrauma, brought up manually & slow but they were fighting each other on the way up and boxed each others eyes out lol

Electric!

Mon, 2010-02-15 17:17

Yep, the jigging is fun and since KC and myself started getting our baglimit of deepwater demersals on jigs a while back I stopped taking bait which saved some $$$ too!

Bait still has its place, for ppl at the beggining stages of deepwater fishing ie to locate fish in particular. Also, if i'm doing recon to find more spots i'll drop baits down but have racked up plenty spots now so not much need. Will say jigging is addictive =)

The Daiwa electric reel does allow for more time to endulge in a cold beverage or 3 =)

Electric Reels

Sun, 2010-02-21 08:37

I rate these reels highly as I have been using them for the past six months.

They allow you to cover more ground when doing recon, not having to wait a long time to retrieve your baits and get arm fatigue syndrome. Most people spend hundreds of dollars on fuel so to find and be able to get onto fish quicker is the name of the game for me.

Happy to spend the time finding fish and get the rewards as what Ryan has done and many others. It is very rewarding for me to fight the fish manually and to see how big the fish is.

Oceanside Tackle's price is the cheapest I've seen so far as I payed a lot more for mine.
