Demersal Jigging Spinning Combo Advice

Looking at buying a spinning reel and a rod for mainly demersal jigging with jigs up to around 150 grams. I also want to use it for SP's and maybe casting a stick bait for a tuna. My budget is around $1500 for rod and reel.

Any advice on what to get and where to buy would be great. Not bothered buying locally or OS.

Cheers

Brendan

Jack of all trades, king of none unfortunately. Jigging rods arent really the best for casting, and hard to work plastics due to the long butts on them IMO. Some rods (e.g. majorcraft, or eupro twincraft) are a bit more all rounders but not as nice for jigging. Probably better off getting two rods in that case.

Though that being said my PE2 xzoga did fling a popper well in a pinch.

Theres a lot of fancy rods you'd be able to get in that budget. Still, those HR jigforces are good value and great rods :D. Based on jig weight you'd want a PE2 or PE3 rod.

Reels, personally i'd get a certate, branzino or stella. Depending on how heavy you want the reel to be a stella 4000 or 5000SW could work (fairly different reels, and big difference in weight).

$1500 bux!! no dramas mate! get a stella to start with!! i got mine at campbells, but i'm sure some of the site sponsors will price match.

With the rod, its each to their own, with more brands and types and sizes than you can poke a stick at. just gotta find the right one for you.

I personally have alutecnos blue jigging rods, and they are AWESOME, but they're bigger/heavier than what you want, and they suit my style. not too sure they're still available over here anymore either.

You could go the eupro salty fighter pe1-2 and a Daiwa 2500-3k? You would then have change for another entire outfit!

For that sort of budget I would be looking at one reel and 2 rods for sure.

What about going for the Saltiga 3500 reel and the Game 68S-3, would fit your budget nicely. Only rated to 120g jigs but a great action and well suited to casting and SP's.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Thanks for the advice guys. I thought it might be a bit of a stretch to get one combo for a few different purposes. I mainly want it for jigging so maybe I should buy one good reel and rod for that and another rod for casting and SP's.

Clint be in busso on Saturday I might drop in for a quick chat.

Has anyone used a twinpower sw pg. I see they are a lot cheaper than the stella sw pg and the specs aren't that different as far as I can see.

Cheers

Brendan

Hey Brendan,
I've got the Twinpower 5000SW (not PG) and rate it very highly and have knocked off some nice fish on it. I also use it for jigging and I don't reckon the higher speed is an issue for the shallower demersal jigging. I originally got it as my SP reel but it seems to get used for both jigging and SP more and more.
Save yourself the $$$ and get this instead of the Stella, then get 2 rods and maybe a 2nd spool if you really need.

I agree. With that budget, you can get a few different combinations.

I know a few blokes that use the Twinpower. They are very good reels & significantly cheaper than the Stella (well not locally I don't beleive).
