you're OK

We were up there in late may in a 6m Quintrex Offshore with a 100L fuel tank

most days I think we averaged around 60L fuel usage

there is good ground - just make sure you study the charts as it is actually quite shallow in some places

I can vouch for the school/spotted mackerel; tried some for the first time the other night lightly battered - delicious !!

(and fun to catch)

In clsoe to shore in relatively shallow water you can catch baldies, black snapper and sometimes get lucky with Pinkies - make sure you're aware of any regulations as well

I really enjoyed our blokes trip stay up there and am planning on returning in 2018

here's my first attempt at a gopro video of the area - plenty more of the msae by others on youtube for you to do some more research on

Hi Faz,

Hi Faz, you should have no probs with a 5m boat up there.

Will get you just about anywhere in the bay & on the other side at Monkey Mia.

As down here, just be mindfull of your boats capabilities & dont be fooled by the shallow water, it can get choppy & catch you out if your not carefull.

That time of year should be no probs, great weather at the moment.

We did some miles in my 4m tinnie in May last year & plan to get back there in April 2018 for 10 days.

Good luck & enjoy, its a great place.

bent peg

Mon, 2017-06-26 19:17

we have in the past trips up there had success with pinkies out near the bent peg which is about 10 nm straight accross

black snapper  and mulla get caught regularly

Do yourself a favour and thoroughly check the regs before you go

Nice to see you back on deck FF.

Havn't seen ya here for a while, hope all is ok.

I agree, the bent pin is a good place to start before you look around for some ground to call "your own" Lol
