Diawa Monster Mesh MAx
Submitted by DBZ on Wed, 2011-06-15 16:35
I've just got a new Trinidad 20 A spooled with 50lb braid (cheers southcity) and was looking for a new rod to upgrade from my T-Curve 400
Has anyone put one of the new Diawa Monster Mesh Max's through its paces? They seem really well priced ($200) - might be going sideways from the T-curve though? I've got one of the older MM and have been fairly happy with that...
Any feedback or altenative suggestions appreciated.... or if you have a suitable second hand rod for sale?
budget up to about $400 and will be used for bottom bouncing and jigging
Cheers

By far the best value for money rod i've seen for a while. Personally i would buy one over a T-Curve even though they're cheper.
So easy to fish with, and have a very nice action.
I wouldn't spend anymore if i was you
Cheers,
Sam

Agree with Sam
one of my mates has the pe6-8 for Sambo jigging and has been very impessed with it so far. Nice and light and has a good action.

yes
Components & blank makes it a better rod, MMM good for price but you pay more you get more.

The action on the new monster
The action on the new monster mesh is certainly a lot better than the old one. I have an old one around here somewhere thats my spare deep jigger ;)

yep got one
yep i bought one this year before going to exy , found it very light in weight and it was very capable of handling some serious fish , it could have been a liitle heavier as i could only compare it to my two live fibre 15 kg and 20 kg rated rods ,the 15 kg gave way this year on a reasonable Rankin so i then changed over to the M.m and was pretty happy with its performance , i have now caught some good fish back in perth waters and it does work well for local fish

Thanks heaps for the comments
Thanks heaps for the comments guys, much appreciated - seems like the MMMs get a good wrap.
Unfortuntely patience isnt one of my strong points and once i walked into the tackle store on the way home yesterday it was going to be hard not to leave without a new friend for the trinidad. I ended up going with a Diawa demon blood PE 4-6 - i liked the action and they had one in stock, plus did a good price for me.
My T-Curve Spin snapped a little while ago so might look at the MMM as a replacement rod to match to my Stella 10,000. I'll check out the power jigs too....

Arhh finally i have found a report with the new monster rods
Im planning on getting a combo (thats the rod of choice) with a half decent spinning reel as my missus's combo to use out on the boat in deep water (whether its jigging or bottom bashing)
can any one recommend a decent spining reel for between $200-300 as well....I do have a Penn750ssm which i guess could be used till i find something decent at a good price, but im scared of getting spooled on something half decent out deep....
or will people think the 750ssm is okay or a starter?

Spinning reel...
Between $200-$300, check out the Daiwa Exceller 6500 DA, that will hold plenty of 50lb braid. Matching colour as well should you get the Monster Mesh Max.

dbz..i know where ya coming
dbz..
i know where ya coming from mate, did the same thing, went to look only at the mmx pe2-3 and walked with the demon blood.
terboz123..
depending on the size rod...my pe2-3 has a stradic 5000 and i love it, absoulte joy to fish with, my 6-8 is an o/h with a saltist l/d 20 and also like this for deep jigging, i also use this b/b in the 40-60's with a light snapper lead, way better than my old alveys and big o/heads.
