Dimersal Ban Rules

Please see the Link Below to fisheries website.

The Demersal Ban covers ALL Demersals in the West Coast Bioregion

http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/Fishing-and-Aquaculture/Recreational-Fishing/Recreational-Fishing-Rules/Bag_And_Size_Limits/Pages/Demersal-Finfish.aspx

The rules are constantly changing so it pays (literally) to keep up

Thu, 2014-10-30 13:21

Why can't we place a link to all the current regs on a folder in the strike zone.

Then people could go there rather than askin on here and getting three versions of interpretaion to the rules.
Just a thought.

Forgive my ignorance as I am

Forgive my ignorance as I am new to fishing in WA.

What were the ban specifics before? Was it species specific?

5 species

Thu, 2014-10-30 14:52

It use to be dhu's, baldies, harlequin, break sea cod, and pink snapper

The list is a lot more extensive now and probably was last season but speaking to other fishos some still think its just the protected five

Last weekend at mindarie a fisher was booked for a foxfish not aware so thought this list might jog a few ppl to check the rules

Just thought it would be helpful.  No doubt will need some popcorn later

Not that it matters now...

Fri, 2014-10-31 09:53

...but the above post illustrates the point Michael Yoni was trying to make. The original V5 did NOT include harlequin fish. The fifth "member" was red snapper.

Good idea to have a link to the fisheries regs on the home page somewhere, but whoever's responsible for maintaining it better be prepared for the constant chopping and changing!

 You would think so Matt

Thu, 2014-10-30 15:05

You would think so Matt since they are all demersal. IMO just fish for whiting or pelagics and you'd be pretty right. I must be one of those stupid people cause I'm still trying to workout this Stikezone thingy lol.

Strike zone is on the left

Thu, 2014-10-30 15:14

Strike zone is on the left hand column up the top below your username, has a bunch of links below it. Had to search around for it too.

Fishing Guide.

Thu, 2014-10-30 15:24

For people that may not be aware. The Recreation Fishing Guide published in Feb 2013 has be replaced with RFG published August 2014, not to much deference and changes should be marked.
Also from the RFG demersals ban:
West Coast Bioregion: Closed season
15 October – 15 December (inclusive). Fishing
for demersal finfish resumes on 16 December.
The take or landing of demersal finfish (listed
on pages 8 – 13) is prohibited within the West
Coast Bioregion (north of Kalbarri to east of
Augusta) during this period. If you catch a
demersal finfish from a boat or from shore in this
area during the closed season you must return it
to the water as soon as possible.

Bit on the nose

Thu, 2014-10-30 15:33

Top 5 no probs, fully support the ban, our fishing is on the improve i say , but seems a bit silly that west coast has the ban for some of the others like redfish or a blue eye trev ,

when  at the same time down south , Augusta or albany fishos , can legally

get there 16! red snapper type fish each  , plus there 5 mixed demersals each! each day , all year round.( 2 anglers =42 fish legal)

I know , I know less fishing pressure , less fishos, less fishing days thru weather etc etc , still tastes a bit funny but ( no not a desmersal taste, thats banned)

Except for the South Coast where you may take
8
Bight redfish and
8
swallowtail,
PLUS
mixed
daily bag limit of
5

Not Augusta

Thu, 2014-10-30 19:13

the west coast zone extends to Black Point.

Nearest launch within the south coast zone would be Windy Harbour.
