Diving

Hey, I'm looking into diving, I'm 15 and want to get some tanks and lessons so I can go and check it out! How much would this set me back and where could I get lessons etc?
Thanks, Justin.

you could do the open water
you could do the open water course for around $400 if you shop around, some places do deals where if you buy a full diving kit from them they give you the course for free.
I did my course in Qld so no help there but I bought all my gear on eBay second hand. I couldn't justify spending $2000 on kit that only got used 10 times a year. By going on eBay I put everything together for about $500. There's also usually plenty of stuff in the Quokka. I'd suggest getting some cheaper second hand gear first then getting good gear when you work out if you like it and how much you dive.

gday I know that a few
gday
I know that a few of the larger dive shops, do a trial dive, so you go for a dive with a Dive Master and get a feel for what goes on. That could be an idea for a newbie to check out if diving is for you.
As for costs, the coarses are around $400 but add a dive medical which most doctors charge $80 or so for, its near enough to $500.
don't feel like you have to rush out and buy gear, because if you're anything like me, you'll soon have thousands of bucks worth of fishing and diving gear.
I would go out on buy the essentals like Fins, Mask, Snorkle and good quality dive wet suit, then hire the gear as you need it. $40-60 should be enough to sort you out for hire gear. When you have a good feel for diving and you are convinced you want to splash out the big bucks then gradually get your kit together. Work out what you want and then shop around. Don't rule out buying from the US online. I buy most of my gear from there. check out www.leisurepro.com and other such sites.
anyway thats my 2 bobs worth, its a great hobby which can suck you in big time.

i second that for
i second that for leasuirepro, i just picked up a cressi rear inflation bcd off them a month ago that retails here for $1200 AUD, cost me $350 + $70 postage USD. ended up costing me 470 AUD.
Alot of good prices on there i reckon u could easliy pick up some regs, bcd and console for less than 500 australian, all new

Thanks heaps hunterdive.
Thanks heaps hunterdive. Really helped, I think I'll try out some trial dives first and decide where I want to take it. Only problem is I'm a little out of the way in Dongara/400Km north of perth.

Leisurepro have some good
Leisurepro have some good deals but the local dealer www.divetub.com.au will pricematch any dealer in the world on the brands he sells.
I now have a mostly Zeagle based rig these days because of that. They're one of the worlds most easy breathing regs at any depth and in Perth, through Divetub, they would have to be the cheapest to service. I now use their backplate, the Flathead LT and the Octo-Z.
Aqualung and Apeks gear is great but the service costs are 4 times the price, at least.
Contact Chriso for some trydive gear! Like they say, your first taste is free!
