If you can get a ride out to it,its an oil rig that did not quite make it for repairs awsume dive, dwn to bottom work your way up and do your deco you will see lots of marine life,it is a dive for the more experienced divers though as you can get narcoses, also be careful of debry, its every were jersey
yeah mate plent of ground outta ledge, pots are all inside or aroung 3mile, shouldnt struggle to find ground, suggest you head south, been diving on stuck pots all last week and some of the ground is awesome, few crays around aswell. Deckhand and member of the Gotone Woodvale team
Cheers D Doush but dumb question.. Do you mean 3 miles from Ledge itself or is 3 mile a location or reef? How far South you reckon, I have a 17ft semi rigid inflatable?
Jersey, would love to dive that mate but don't have the experience at that depth yet. Looks like a great dive tho!!
If I was doing this dive it would be from a dive boat. I have been there fishing and if you read up on it you will see the conditions that sunk it are common in that area. There is a dive company that departs from Lancelin but you need AOW and two 30Meter loged dives in the past 12 months before they will take you.
Head south to you hit the big sand dunes, called the matacoora or something like that then just head out upto 3 mile, you'll find our pro pots all the way, look at the sounder and away you go. but if i catch ya pulling crays out of my pots watch out!! nah just having ya on. Today's history lesson - "matacoora" is also known as Manakoora, which is a wreck about a mile offshore, infront of large sand dunes, which is called the Manakoora sand patch.
Douche is right, plenty of good spots around the wreck and further offshore. Caught my first dhuie around here.
Cheers fella, I checked the dunes out on Google Earth and there seems to be 2 sets of them south of Ledge? Should I head out from the first or second set ya reckon?
You need to change ya aviatar brodz everytime i get on here i have to put my sunnies on, the glare of that white chest is blinding!!! Deckhand and member of the Gotone Woodvale team
17ft rigid inflatable vs 57 crayboat i think i'll know who will win!!! yeah you should get some crays and the vis was really good today. Deckhand and member of the Gotone Woodvale team
Yeah that beach launch was easy, retrieving was a different story! A friendly local with a tractor saved my ass in the end :-)
Thanks for all the help Doush but only managed 2 crays. We found some great structure but it was too solid with no real ledges. I know they were there but they were all buried deep in cracks and kelp.
The good news however, is that we pulled in a couple decent dhuies!
Listen to Brody, skull drag the boat up the beach with a rope on the trailor. Retrieving in the water will end in tears!

It's easy to spot Douchebag,
It's easy to spot Douchebag, he wears a set of shiny spurs.
The Manakoora patch would be the biggest sand patch south of Ledge.

Sure is, Launching is easy.
Sure is, Launching is easy. A lot of people get unstuck retrieving but.
What you need is a heavy rope to pull your boat from the surf, then back your trailer underneath and winch up the rest.
