Do the drive or not?
Hi Crew,
After another disappointing day on the ffb and in the sound I thought I ask the question is it for the ppl living in the northern suburbs worth driving down there?
I have towed my boat now six or seven times down there (and I live about 5 min from the Hillarys ramp) to try new grounds on the ffb and to fish for Snapper in the sound. I tried all different sorts like driftbaiting, bottoms , livies , anchored, drifting , trolling, days and nights and every bait you can think of and all I got is 1 barely sized Dhu and a couple of KG's and Blackarse. And of course I spent hours on sounding around. I also noticed there are many more boats around there and the fishing pressure on the ffb must be huge. The sound is ridiculously busy. And with all the boats fishing there, there must be one or two which clean up. But in general I havent noticed any boat around there where I was, catching anything decent. And in the sound you can pretty much read the speedo from the boat next to you, so close they get. And if I drive all the way over to Rotto I dont need to do that from there I can get there from the northern ramps just as fast.
And if I fish from out of Hillarys I find it easier to find promising ground and my catches always been better from up here. So for me its not worth anymore to go down that way and spent an hour of my fishing time driving to get there and the all the extra fuel (from the towing vehicle).
Are any Guys on here who drive down there regular from the northern suburbs?
And I know if you spent lots of time there you will catch something!
And for ppl who live there and fish always from there and know the area very well it is easier to find good ground and catch regular. I am not saying it is a shit area!
All I am saying is it really worth for me driving that way or should I rather try to find more ground around my area?
Cheers Seb

It does looks like a good alternative to go up that way. I sure will try that!

North
I'd go North rather than South from there. Less fishing pressure if nothing else.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

mate I live in kwinana
and do most of my fishing out of jurien as i would rather drive up there than waste my time out of here, dont get me wrong i do still catch some good fish down here but its a lot more work ,ffb has been void of just about all life for as long as ive been fising It just gets hammerd by every dinghy fisherman around as its so close, you will get Kgs ,snapper and dhuies in close around the 30 to 40m mark but its mostly flat coral ,sand and weed , if you head out to the 40/70m mark theres some good structure out there that holds fish but still very hard work ,the only good fishing out of here now i reckon is the deep drop out in 300m+
