electric reel connection to power source

G'Day Guys

I'm looking to make a better connection for my Electric reels to the power source rather than the existing clip system which tends to be a litte too susceptible to disconnection in a moving boat.

I've read on here that there are connectors that people use for this very thing. Appreciate if someone can tell me the name of these connectors and where I might get them from. Also what would be the best size cable to run from the battery to the connectors. Are they waterproof ?

cheers

Anderson Plugs

Anderson plugs are a good conector for 12v and 24v applications. They are not fully water proof but last a lomg time and dont come apart easily.

I solder the wire into the socket before crimping it, this will prevent corrosion of the wire .

Just one option, others might have more ideas .

an auxiliary battery with  6mm threaded ss bots with wing nuts. Removed the clips reluctantly and fitted eye terminals. Ran the Anderson s for a while but find they corrode even stuffed with silicone grease. There are waterproof push pull with clip types plugs I've seen for bilge pumps ect which I recon would work esspecially under gunnels

Electric reel connectors

Go into whitworths or bias they have specific waterproof marine grade 2 pin plugs and sockets in their electrical section.

You can probably get away with 4mm cable but always err on the safe side and run 6mm make sure you buy tinned cable to avoid corrosion and solder all connections.

Hope this solves your problem.

Bruce

I have twin 30 am Maritec marine 12 volt outlets on my boat (standard with the Boston Whaler fishing package). I run twin electrics off them. M mate had recently fitted the same on his boat so mower can take the electrics on either boat and it's just plug and play.

I also have a Maritec connector on my charger so can easily recharge the batteries by just plugging in the cockpit. Easy.
