Exmouth bottom bashing

 Hey guy’s,

Heading to Exy from the 16th for a few weeks fishing. Haven’t been up that way for years but have heard the sharks are pretty well plague proportions out around the Murion Islands these days? Used to do well around there 10+ years ago but thinking I might need a new plan this time around. Thinking of targeting ruby’s out deep, can anyone provide depths, best baits and general location to start? Will be based at the marina but not too worried about spending a few days on the west side if need be, likewise not concerned with travelling big distances out from the islands as being from the south a 70km + run each way is pretty well the norm.

Also thinking of venturing over to Peak and Long Island to try bottom bouncing for reds, rankin etc but have never fished that region before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Not looking for gps marks or your secret spots just what area, depths etc to start in around there would be great. PM me if your not willing to divulge to the public.

Thanks in advance for any info shared. Will post up a report post trip!

 Heading up tonight, sharks

Thu, 2018-03-29 14:01

Heading up tonight, sharks are hit and miss.. some days you can fish all day and no sharks turn up, then next day first drop are sharks. Not sure why but Doing the usual stuff to avoid them I think helps.. approach slowly to the spot, no excess bait/blood in water, move spot once they turn up etc. They have definitely got worse over the years but still good fishing and worth it I’ve found. Still plenty of sharks out peak and more so murions too,

20m contour

Trawl up the 20m contour line from Peak to long doing a bit of zig zag and you should find a bit of ground.  Just west of long there is quite a few small limestone ledges and cracks 20-22m.  Its a little early for the big reds in that depth but should be a few mid sized ones and plenty of rankins and chinaman.
