exmouth with bout time

went for a quick trip to exmouth last weekend to drop of an aircon .while i was there i caught up with bout time [steve ] for a half day fish.
well what a day it turned out to be .we hit the tandabiddi ramp at first light with no other boat trailers in the car park in went the boat.the plan was to troll along the back of the reef heading south and once the southerly hit we would turn and head for home.steve wonted to christen his boat with a mackeral.well that didnt take long .we were barly out the back when one of three trolling rods stared loosing line .with in a couple of minutes the first of several spanish macks was in the boat.ide say this first fish was about 6 to 8 kg. not knowing what the day was going to be like fish wise this fish was bleed and into the esky.out went the deep divers again and within minutes bang we are on again.another mackie .things were looking good .this fish was tail grabbed hooks removed and back into the drink he went. lures out 5 minutes later steves reel is screaming and bang out of the water 10foot in the air is a big big what we all believe to be a mega mack. we are all hooting and wooping ,then things get wierd .theres a bit of thrashing in the water .what i believe is steves mack or wahoo or what ever but all i know is its big.well a couple of minute of getting sum and looseing some what appears at the side of the boat has us all scrathing our heads .its a shark of about 30 to 35 kg.this is where the gaff is put down well only one thing for it as we want the lure back .i tail grab the shark and with alot of puffing and grunting i manage to drag him aboard and jump on his back croc dundee style while steve and seb are a little dubious of what ive done sanity is restored and out comes the lure .now if you thought it hard getting old bittie face into the boat getting him out was even harder.steves got its tail im wrestling the sharp end by the dorsal fin and one pectrol fin and out the back door he goes.quick check for fingers and toes a little lye down for me as i was rooted and out go the lures again.anothr mackie is tail grabbed .then a bigger one about 10 to 12 kg is dispatched and on ice.next one is a nice sized rankin cod .another mack or two later steve sinks the gaff into a nice size cobia,we put him on the lye detector 13 kg NICE FISH.next is a 19kg mackie .the place is alive with fish with free jumping macks and schools of mack tuna breaking the surface.at one stage we had a triple hooh up with sed dropping his fish mine getting sharked .which left steve to land another big mackie that went back into the drink after the lure was removed.on again .line is peeling from my reel.at the side of the boat is a nice yellow fin ,he spitts the lure and torpedos of into the blue.bye this time we are heading back towards the ramp.water death of about 25 meters.one of the reels starts sreaming again .sebs go. what the f@#$k.swimming into view is what i pick as a small blue marlin with a big bite mark out of his back.this is an unbelievable day of action .we get the marlin into the boat and inspect the wounds .this fella has chuncks out of him all over and is in very poor condition.the biggest wound is starting to heal and looks to be a couple of weeks old.a quick couple of pics and hes back in the drink .he takes quite a bit of time to revive .even to the point where i didnt like his chances of survival as his stomach was empty and he was landed in about 1 minute with no jumps no screaming runs nothing .as we were only trolling at about 5 knots im think mr marlin thoght all his birthdays had come at once with an easy meal but no its our lure and its not filling his belly.thats the last fish for the trip .
we are back at steves by about 1.30.im on the road headed back to tom price by 2.30 what a great day
ide like to thank steve for the oppurtunity to get a ride on his boat.i had a blast .great bloke .great boat and great fishing.what esle could you ask for

You boys certainly can't complain with fishing like that. Awesome stuff. Wish I was up there with you.

Any video footage Mitch? or were you all too busy catching fish to pick up the camera?

Cheers

Boutime machine

Sun, 2007-03-11 09:14

Well, the bouttime machine did it again on Friday, we decided to head out for a quick fish on friday arvo. We got 1 spaniard an hour for 3 hours, a 6kg stripey tuna and had a monster of a cobia buzz the boat. Conditions were pretty average, but the fish were on, well, enough for some fun and some boozing. Now we won't go into what happened at the potshot after, remember much Steve? :))))

Bumped into Rumpy and the boys down the marina the other day Mitch, have to hookup for a big one!!!

Looks pretty good out there today. Starting to blow a little now, but bugger all really. Might have to catch up at the pub on Friday night for a few. I'm off down to Wapet and the bay of rest saturday and off down to canarvon on Monday for a week and have got Sunday lined up for snorkelling and some shore based missions at a few secret spots, so no boat fishing for me for a while. :( But conditions aren't looking to bad at the moment.
