Exmouth Experience
Hello guys, just made it to exmouth and after 12 hours of driving went to put the boat in this morning. Before I came up had everything serviced and thought i was prepared as i could be. Launched in perfect conditions and started to head out the heads of the marina and steering died. Dropped anchor and lucky for me i got some help with a tow back to the ramp. I wish i got the guys details but he was a very friendly local who had just come back from squidding with the family. Was very lucky.
Had a look and hyrdaulic fluid is leaking out a hose not far from the motor. Only here for 7 days so dead keen to get out on the water. My question is has anyone had something like this happen and is it an easy fix?
Have put a picture of the busted hose in the hope that someone might be able to help. Not much i can do here in Exmouth on a Sunday night so thought i might try on here.

It's an easy fix if you can
It's an easy fix if you can get the part, don't try reusing the old one as it won't work . I think it's 5 bucks for for the coupling

See if you can get a brass
See if you can get a brass fitting with same or similar thread (use thread tape or sealant) to that of the bulkhead with a barbed end that the hose can be fitted to, cut the old fitting off and use one or two hose clamps. Looks like the bulkhead would be a -6 or -8 style fitting, so a speedflow type fitting could be used and would be a reliable permanent repair. Dunno what sort of pressure these run but the boys on the Top Gun charter there had to do a bodge up that lasted the rest of the trip a few weeks back, undo the fitting, slip a hose over the affected area and a hose clamp at each end
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Local hose guy
Surely there is a local who makes hoses for a living e.g hosemasters, hose doctor, enzed, hardy spicer and so on. They should be able to cut the end off and crimp on a new fitting if you have enough length in the hose. Would be your quickest option. Just did a google search and there is a joint called exmouth industrial repairs, 26 Ingram st. Says they do hydraulic hose work but if they can't do it, maybe they know someone who can. Good luck.
