Exmouth fishing questions
Submitted by BunburySeahorse on Mon, 2017-04-10 18:53
So as my last question talked about. I'm going to Exmouth at the start of May. I have heard it is brilliant weather then, and fishinh conditions are almost always perfect then. What I would like to know is, is land based fishing there as good as everyone says, or is it worth bringing a kayak, or maybe renting the small boat from exmouth boat hire (can only go a few hundred meters out)? I would love to get onto a couple of decent sized GT'S as well as good some fish that are good on the chew. Up there for a week, and have a combo for almost every type of fishing
Cheers

Rent a tinnie whilst you are up there
not sure about how many descent sized gt's you will find within a few hundred metres of shore, but I could be wrong.
if you rent a tinne from Exmouth boat hire I am sure they can guide you in the right direction to at least tackle something.
the weather is usually good at that time of year, but like all things in life there are never any guarantees.
have a good time and above all else stay safe, it's a pretty remote place after all.

We had a ball in our hobie
We had a ball in our hobie kayaks up there but a boat would be better , there is a company up there that hires out polycraft boats and im pretty sure the 4.5m is legaly allowed 2 mile out off shore so thats the back of the reef for a good start

Gt fishing is not as easy as
Gt fishing is not as easy as some say up here. Can be very hit and miss. Back of the reef south of south passage there are a few but can be hard work. most are over at the island but unless you hire the big boats you wont get there. If that's what your really after try get out with Eddie on peak sports fishing or On strike charters. They both good options to get amongst them.
Bring the Kayak plenty of fun with snapper and small GT's and queenies inside the reef on the west side or down the bottom of the gulf. Depends how far you want to paddle but plenty of fish down the bottom of the gulf around the islands. Or hire one of the smaller boats and launch at the homestead down the bottom of the gulf. Some good trout and snapper down there in shallow water.

spango is probably much
spango is probably much easier on bait.. Half a mulie cast onto sand near a reef should get you a feed. .. Small halco poppers are good fun tho around the bommies
If you find bait fish you'll find queenies. I prefer stickbaits or casting plugs. Live baitfish are the best
