Head straight of the front of the Tantas leads in about 50 m heaps of ground there and plenty of good fish mate.

Maybe head south from there

Maybe head south from there to the south entrance to the reef & then head out to 85 - 100m mark. Had some luck with Goldbands etc there, again watch the sharks.

Just the best tip i have for ya Zand, make sure your radios are in working condition & your safey gear is all up to scratch.

have fun & enjoy, it's a great place to fish & explore.

cheers Rob

If your after some spanglies you don't have to head out too far, had good results fishing the reefs close to shore

Mate I headed up in April.

Mate I headed up in April. First trip with no spots... Bagged out each day and did not get sharked once. Hit the Shoals in the Gulf if it's windy (go to the furthest ones), anchor and burley over fish. Slip a floater out the back and you will grab a mackie. Good fun. Head out from Tantabidi and look for the boats - there will be heaps. Sound around slowly and find fish in the 60-80m. I also went as far as 200+ for a look but hard work. Deep dropping is getting smashed out there in the 300's also. I had a mackie a minute from the back of the reef in Coral Bay (well, nearly!) but could not troll one up in Exxy. So much baitfish in the water..

With a boat it is great fun

Even with no marks you will find some, not that it will be your own because that area has been explored. The few times we went down from Kcity we had no marks. I simply started looking at the Navionic's info on the Plotter and worked from there.

As mentioned if windy on the west do the gulf. But overall it is better on the west side IMO.

Even some of the shoals in close to Exmouth itself have helped us out a few times. Not bad fishing only 10mins from the Marina. I suspect that these arent utilised because there are better spots further out, and people think because they are close they are hard hit.

Tried these close shoals one day when I had the non-converted to fishing fanatic kids onboard. Didnt want to drag them over to the windy west side on that day, and didnt want to bore them with the travel time to Murions and further shoals. Thought we would get a few NWsnapper and other shit type fish but bagged almost out on Rankins, Coral trout and some whopper spangos. It was action on every minute so the Kids were kept frantic. Didnt get any reds but I am sure even they are there.

Mackies were seen busting up but was to busy with the BBing to float a livie/mulie out the back. In between keepers we got plenty of Trevors, sods and cods.

Thus dont ignore the closer shoals if the wind is westerly because I was surprised to say the least. However the further you can venture east the better the fishing.

As for the west side the advise above is a good start. I do prefer the south passage option though. Having said all this have fished Exxy for about 6 trips, averaging 4-5 days each time, so no expert like Adam and deepwater etc.
