Exmouth landbased - when is the best time of year ???
Submitted by Dasho on Mon, 2009-03-23 15:32
Hi folks.
We went to exxy last October from the 5th to the 11th for some landbased fishing, and the results were a little dissapointing.
No reports of any big fish or squid, just heaps of whiting and yellow fin bream.
As it costs us $1500/pp for the flight up + car rental, can anyone please recommend what time of year has the best catches for the humble landbased fisherman ?
Thanks in advance.

April-May we did really well, plenty of big spangos, bluebone, asstd Trevs etc etc.
Nov-Dec we did well also, spangos everywhere and there was plenty of big queenies around, bluebone, trevs etc etc

Just wondering is the West
Just wondering is the West side of the cape better fishing for the likes of Bluebone and Spango's landbased? Heading over there this weekend and havent hit the place before and am chasing both of these fish. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I heard Crabs are best burley and bait for both species, so I figuire the reef patches with sandy channels would be the go???
Cheers

Yep
Sounds like your pretty ready to go Billy and your info is good.
Dasho, just depends what you want to chase and where. But year round its generally pretty good, just late in the year the wind is annoying.

my pick!
I fing with Exxy L/B its more about better spots & tides than time of year. If i had to pick something it would be Sept- May with warmer waters/more bait!

Fished land based for ten years before moving to beach launched tinny fishing (which I highly recommend) - found no problem getting good fish including cobia, spanglies and huge queenies from the west side......gulf was never very productive for us although we did ok night fishing near the jetty
Even got a 20kg spaniard on beach gear on a occy tenticle.
Tides are the key but a good fall back is fishing late into the dusk / night when the fish move inshore - fish close to structure !

Thanks for the info
Thanks for the info guys.
This year I will try to fish the tides which I must say I didn't do last year due to the wind.
Might even try some night fishing in the marina after seeing the spango Adam caught in his photo.
