Exmouth Marlin Trolling with Tyrnos 30 (2 speed) - advice

hey guys...

heading up to exmouth end of june and going to be doing some trolling for marlin.  im going to get it respooled and not sure if i should go for mono or braid.  i know with the mono i'll pull less hooks but will have lower line capacity.

Mono line capacity is (kg/meters)

14/548, 18/411, 23/320

Braid is (lb/meters)

50/823, 65/773, 80/686

any advice would be great!

Braid backing with a mono top

Braid backing with a mono top shot? Best of both worlds. Im pretty shore thats what the pros do so they can have more line to play big fish.

How big are the fish you are

How big are the fish you are chasing? What depth of water and what size lures? If you are chasing smaller Blacks up to 60kg or so then 15kg mono all the way is fine. If you are in a small boat it is easiest just to follow them than try to drag them back to the boat. Line capacity shouldnt be an issue as you should only have 150-200m of line out at the most before you can get lines cleared and start chasing.

dodge most of the fish we

Mon, 2011-05-30 06:21

dodge most of the fish we get are ar under 100kg most around the 50mark i would serpose ,bepths between 50/300m ,with all your fish take up the chase because you will run out of line so you dont get 150/200ms  out, i have a small 19 footer and it is fine ,alought of people chase them in tinnies

You should be able to get 700m of 15kg on a tyrnos 30.

I have 700m+ on mine of 15kg Shogun 0.44mm dia.

Tyrnos 30

Best to go with mono, gets expensive when you start filling with braid. Besides you got other outfits for your bottom fishing. I'd go with 15kg mono straight through. As mentioned above, most Marlin at Exmouth are well under 100kg.

of 15kg and you are worried about line capacity?

If you catch a beakie that peels that off, then you'll have a great story to share! Stick with mono, you'll be gold.
