Exmouth Perth Road trip from Darwin
Well I am back home in Darwin....
Over the new years break I had a bit of time off work and thought... what the hell I'll go for a drive with my dog.
We braved the cyclones in the north of Australia. .. with only the one floodway that I did not see at full noise and low light...... crapped my pants but held the wheel.. and tried to guess what colour the airbags were, and if I was going to take out the culvert.
With the storms about from Darwin to Broome, the Kimberley should have a cracker run off this year.
Well with no more misshaps, I made Exmouth in good time.... and boom... WA... windy always.
For the short period of time I was there, it blew its ring out.... gulf side was a mess and the west side was milk coffee brown..
Surprisingly Oysters was clear as, but tide times were not that favorable. .. but your on holidays so you make the most of it.
A mate drove up from Perth to meet me as well as some facebook friends that were also in Exxy, so with the bad weather...
(as pictured boats in the sanctuary zones... gives an idea on how rough it was out wide)
I made the most of it as I had new lures to swim and test and report on.
Only one day we had with no wind... GTs in the middle of the day chasing and smashing lures without a single solid hook up.
We were sight casting lures to packs of mid sized GT and monster loners with schools of big Barracuda coming through. .. was great fun.
And the very next day.... more wind... more than what I would like and talking to my mate we pulled up stumps and I continuedthe trip to perth to get some jigging in.
Well turned out it was blowing there too.... trip was looking a bit grim , but another mate asked if I had targeted whiting before with lures...
" hell no... I use a cast net up north and use them for bait "
So I spent the day driving down south to Mandurah chasing whiting and crab,
I had an awesome time on the 2kg gear, and had no idea whiting were so aggressive, we kept a few and some crabs to cook up .
One of your Local Tackle Shops gave me a rod to test and gladly took it north time to Lancelin to have a play off the jetty there... again the wind, I just couldn't get away from it.
But the trip was to test gear and have a break which was basically achieved with some cooking with the lads thrown in.
Sorry no GTs this trip but enjoy the pics

Awesome photos as usual
Some of those stick baits for Exmouth have remarkable detail. Where would one buy such lures? I presume they come at a premium price, for a premium lure.

Thanks for the great report and pics
if I may ask a few questions, did you have any trouble getting accommodation in Exy by having the dog with you, also can you tell me the name of the lure you used on the whiting.
you are living the dream, long may it last for you and you friends.

Some of those lures look
Some of those lures look better than the fish they will catch. Pretty impressed.
And using the right gear catching whiting on lures is a hoot. When a school try to out muscle each other to get to the offering it is amazing.
