Exmouth Report/Video
Submitted by wayneleech on Mon, 2008-10-13 19:30
For those who are interested I've just put together bit of a
video from our trip up to exmouth. We
went from Oct 3rd - 10th and stayed at Yardie Creek
Caravan Park. Although the weather wasn't the best in the
mornings the afternoons seemed to turn it on and all in all we managed to get 5
full days out in the boat - mostly out from Tantabiddi.
To see the video click the link below. It's fairly large so maybe best to download
it to ya computer before viewing it.

Yep
Right mouse click and choose save target as (for any of those that may not know) Nice vid there Wayne. Also, thats a red bass, not a jack, most likely a spinner shark and is a ramora not a cobia. [sorry to be picky mate ;) ]
Oh yeh, just a language warning for a few of our younger viewers. ;)

Variety
Great stuff Wayne, with a good variety of fish caught.
Love the bend in the 8lb gear during the remora fight, you sure he wasn't suckered on to a manta at that stage?

Great video
some nice fish too considering the wind issues. Nothing worse than a long trip and having to sit and wait while it blows it's guts out.

cheers fellas, Sorry bout
cheers fellas,
Sorry bout that Adam - forgot to edit the audio! will do next time:) Was my first time using windows movie maker so hopefully i'll learn these things soon. Yeah we couldn't decide on what the red bass was - I check the ID book and the fins and colours looked very similar to a jack - though it wasn't quite there. Either way it was a great fight and nice on the barbie too. We only kept that, some mackeral and the coral trout and out of all of them the red bass was the nicest chew - big chunky flakes which cooked up great in KFC like batter;)
Hmmmmm hope my mate doesn't see this post - lol, we had a running competition up there with one of the leader boards based on most selected species caught - cobia was one of them and I think this was the deciding fish that claimed the trophy!
Yeah the video footage was bit of a task at times - i made a little tripod at the back of the boat for the camera which worked okay though wasn't always lined up - I think I may end up putting another tripod up the front of the boat aswell - to cover more angles.
Cheers John - yeah we had a ball on light gear (well until my mates rod n reel fell overboard!). The fight featured on the video was actually another larger fish which got away - however it fought exactly the same as the second remora caught so I believe it was a bigger remora. I was nearly spooled so had to tighten up near the death which ended the fight:( Was also getting those remora's on "snapback" soft plastics which was a technique I haven't tried before. After seeing how many fish we caught on soft plastics up there this is definitely something I'm going to try whilst drifting over the reefs in perth. You could say that we caught just as many, or even more fish on soft plastics than compared to drift baiting. I think it was the moving action of the plastics which seemed to fire them up more than compared to drifting bait.
Another lure that seemed to do really well was that orange looking Xrap - using that over the reefs caught us a lot of cod / trout etc. Btw, is ranking cod any good to eat?
Anyway, cheers for the feedback - looking forward to getting back up there!
