Exporting squid to Singapore

At the prices I saw, I just want in - you would have to be next to useless to not make a quid!
You sometimes forget how good we have it here in Australia..........

I'm sure if you went to some markets you could get squid pretty damn cheap. You could probably even get Australian squid cheaper than here somewhere :p

the local grade squid
was fetching $78/kg. The market prices weren't much cheaper either.
Go in with Aussie squid at $50/kg - cha ching.

You are going to the wrong
You are going to the wrong place HuggyB. What you see there is sashimi grade. Go to a wet market and you will get fresh squid, not frozen before, but not prepared for sashimi for about $3-5.00 per kilo.

i was just going to say that
i was just going to say that before i saw your reply. i'm from singapore and i've never heard of seafood going up that high. most of our fishes in the market are farmed.

I was there last december to
I was there last december to see a friend, we had a bbq with prawns, squid, fish and stingray. It was all cheap no where near that price, not sure how much but it was cheaper than buying the same or close to from coles at $19/kg. We went to a wet market though maybe its much cheaper there and just as smelly

Both those are Sashimi Grade
ie you pay the price. Still not worth it as any fresh fish/prawn/squid you catch is automatically sashimi grade unless you start freezing it. Then the "line of custody" becomes important to the importer.

Thats ridiclously priced. HuggyB is going to the wrong places for sure.
a) thats sashimi grade
b) thats not a place locals go to to buy stuff and instead targeted at rich foreigners who don't know where to shop. eg aussies
c) The local wet market you could probably get squid for like $5 to $10 bucks a kilo fresh. Thats like $3.50-$7.50 AUD a kilo. But of course you being foreigner will end up getting charged alot more than locals. Read 50%-200% more :)
d) You forgot to factor in foreign exchange rates.
Singapore is much cheaper especially for food than super overpriced Australia in most respects except for cars, boats and property.
You have no idea how much you are getting screwed over in price in Australia.
Expensive to eat out, high tax, expensive petrol, expensive services, expensive food, expensive electricity and gas.

I'll sell sashimi grade squid - how hard can it be? For $80 odd a kilo surely its worth a crack!
then I'll wash it down with my $90 bottle of jacks.

Great stuff, just remember that you will need to commit ready availability of x quantity through out the year, delivery is twice a week and each squid must be ikied. All sashimi grade food is air freighted too.
The fresh squid in the wet markets or fish port markets in Jurong are bulk squid, all fresh, but have not been individually ikied, hence the difference in price.
