Never failed yet

My favourite knot is the Tuna Knot.
Developed by the NE US commercial bluefin fleet and only leaked to us sporties in the past ten years (or so the blurb said).

This is THE knot for florocarbon, no mistake, but equally as good for mono.

Double the line, thro the swivel, ring or hook, three times around & up the doubled line, and three times back down and thro the loop, wet well and pull up very tight.

A genuine 100% knot and, correctly tied its never failed me yet, and I cannot say that about any other except the bimini.

For me Dean, I use a bimini double first then tie a Uni knot with that double!

choice would be a uni knot 1st then a GT knot(double to mono leader), then obviously a Bimini. Would like to learn a couple more. MAXY

Braid to swivel ???

Tue, 2007-06-19 16:49

Can I ask why tie the braid to the swivel at all?

IMHO my braid is my 'running line' and is not to be wasted by tieing and retieing knots with it.
I just tie a decent bimini (a sheer pleasure with braid) and then, if bottom bashing, a length of mono with an albright, or if jigging, floro with a loop2loopx2.
This is of a lower test than the running line and represents my 'sacrificial end', I just tie my swivel on to that.
With a good tight weave braid a bimini lasts me 100-150 trips out before it requires a trim back and a re-tie, and if I'm careful I can unpick the bimini and 'make' 3-4inches of braid from the old knot!
Tight arsed b'std I am.

(Love the wife joke - real Aussie humour, great).

I do!

I use braid to a swivel for bottom fishing as an exapmle, too much line twist can be generated without.

I've used braid to leader via a GT/decky knot etc and no probs if I want to cast a popper or jig but after a while line twist will occur.

Easiest and strongest way I've found to then tie the mono leader to the end of the Bimini(double), is the GT knot or decky knot. Try that as well Dean. Pretty easy and neat.I also when bottom bouncing tie my braid straight to the swivel. There's enough mono on the rest of the rig for stretch.I have had NO breakages from the braid to swivel just the mono end of things. MAXY
