Hate to be a stickler but you sure the marlin is a blue?
As a side note, got a mate up here visiting from Lincoln, landing marlin, reds and mega jacks, he's loving it.

Going by those pics Alan put up, its a black. How blue is it though? Apparently blues were sometimes called cuban black marlin though...
Nice variety of fish there Kane. One of the things I love about the Abrolhos. So many different types of fish to catch, both northern and southern. Havent seen any reds though (though I did see at a restaurant that they said their red snapper was from the abrolhos). What depth did you get him in?

red emperor....
caught that small one on the first day in about 50 - 60 metres at a spot where good sized pink snapper were coming in one after the other...another guy got a similar sized red emperor a day or 2 later at a deeper spot maybe 85 metres from memory :)
what blew me away was the spangled, 77cm it measured, the skipper was telling me the record for them is 84cm caught on his boat a few years ago....he was quite excited to see what it measured.....close but no cigar :P

We get quite a few spanglies
We get quite a few spanglies in some spots. One spot we caught dozens in shallow. Good fun (and they release well). I think my biggest went 4.5kg and biggest on the boat was 5 or 6? Didnt get lengths though.

yeah sweet mate are you guys up at exmouth at the moment?
yeah im no expert mate but blue marlin is what the skipper and deckies called it, was caught by a novice fisherman on the charter so he was wrapped as youd imagine.
I had 2 skirts out in the spread but no luck getting any hits this time round.
we got our quota of fillets 2 days early and bad weather was forecast so we went in a day early.
