Does it matter what

Does it matter what nationality a rod is? Just coz the Japanese catch squid doesn't mean you will too automatically by using a Japanese rod

I Know That but the japanese

I Know That but the japanese rods are better quality and are more refined to "Egi" Rather than just getting a bream rod and calling it an egi rod

Ere ya go little fella,

i have a few jap squid rods, although I snapped one a few months ago. I went to Bluewater to replace it and saw a little 1-4kg, 2.1m Paul worstelling shimano nano rod on spesh for $40. So I thought what the hell, for $50 I didn't care if it snapped first time, I'll give that a go.

The verdict:

i used it yesterday, and it is better than any of my expensive jap squid rods. Casts better, loads better, softer tip but strong on a retrieve  I caught 8 out of 10 squid on it yesterday

moral of of the story is, don't think because something is more expensive or made somewhere different, that it is better

Time to pull the trigger mate. You've done your research, developed a budget that fits and found what you want.

Over the years I've used an old Shimano bullwhip. Caught more Billy lids than I care to think about.

Become a member of Rakuten and you can buy Japanese source and get gear not avail here. Shipping prices ok and now and then there's discounts. Only thing is that you cant have a feel of the rod before buying. Dont forget warranty claims can be difficult as you didn't buy here

Catching Squid

Mon, 2017-10-16 18:06

You can catch squid using a hand line or a very cheap rod and reel, why do you need expensive gear?

I know you can but in my opinion i like to specialise the "sport" like bream fishing, you can catch bream on a cheap rod with no need for fancy lures, so same for egi fishing!

 If you want to try

Mon, 2017-10-16 20:19

If you want to try specialist gear because eging is becoming your passion don't let others deter you.

Of course you can catch squid on bream gear, handlines, Kmart gear, or Japanese gear.

End of the day if you want to spend the money on the egi gear and you have the money (which you have set your budget for) go for it. It will make you happy.

Same could be said buying a Ferrari, why spend money on a Ferrari when you can get from A-B in a billion other cheaper cars. Why do you need the expensive car?? or bike? or house??

The Ferrari buyer, is an enthusiast, believes he drives faster, owning the Ferrari makes him happier and of course he has bragging rights over his mates.

As someone said above though, NS is Korean made. I have one and I love it. Mine is 8ft7 and when land based it helps me cast my jigs a mile. Absorbs the lunges from the squid well. And makes me happy!

Good job on your PB by the way!

Some fluorocarbon leader won't go astray either, and keep saving for your pending jig addiction!

They just keep coming out with newer jigs with newer technology all the time! Great marketing too I guess!
