Finally popped my tuna cherry

This may come a shock to anyone living in the Pilbara but I have been fishing up here for most of my life and up until recently had never caught a tuna. Most people consider them a pest. It wasn’t a technique thing. A lot of these fish have been caught around me, it’s just every time it was my turn to grab the strike I would end up with every species except tuna. Not any more, I now have one less fish on my ‘to catch’ list.

Not huge but still a tuna

And a little Mack for din-dins

Sometimes it is hard to believe how a certain fish "avoids" you. Now you will catch 1000s.

Pests?

I am absolutely thrilled during the oh so few occasions when a southern bluefin or yellowfin hits the deck...sashimi half, bbq other half with olive oil and lemon pepper, I rate it with anything that swims, and anything that doesn't, for that matter!

Are longtails the same? I know stripeys are pretty ordinary tucker, and have heard the same about mack tuna, but where does the northern bluefin rate in the eating department?

Mate i agree with you, i would gladly catch another one, they fight well. I just know a few people that have caught a lot of them and are over it. especialy when chasing billfish as they can destroy a spread of rigged baits.
