Firearms E-petition link

Link to petition below, I'd encourage anyone with an interest in outdoor sports to sign, as the ongoing attacks on outdoor pursuits will continue.
I'd hazard a prediction that not that far in the future, bows and spearguns will also be subject to such licencing and restrictions.
The people who are putting this shit together are those who have no connection to these pursuits and their thinking is "I can't see why they need it"?

What's the main issues the petition is fighting for those of us too lazy to look it all up Rob? I am somewhat aware of the calibre issue and my understanding is that the ability to fire multiple shots in quick succession is more of an issue than the calibre and that if, for example, a hitman wants to use a high calibre sniper rifle like the Motoplex assasination then they would be unlikely to buy it legally and register it.....

The main issues
The main issues;
Similarly the "gun bunker", headlines were he was fined $10K etc, when in fact the fine was for converting a wine cellar where they were stored and the firearms were all or mostly legally obtained.
These headlines were 9 MONTHS AFTER IT WAS FOUND, conveniently drawing attention.
A similar analogy would be the Government engaging PETA to assess whether you personally "needed" to go fishing before you got an RFBL.
Some would even point to the fact firearms licencing is administered and arbitrarily influenced by the WA Police as though it was a criminal activity.
The penalties for having your firearms stolen are very often heavier than actually stealing them.

Looking at the second last paragraph
A retired copper friend of mine commented several years ago, the shooting community gets treated way harder than the criminal activity of prostitution.
I think he's right.

yes and legal firearms owners are administered by a criminal investigation department.
Not even drivers licences are run by the Police

This is the Govt that banned gel blasters which are basically a suped up nerf gun. Could have changed the laws so they have to look like a toy i.e. bright coloured plastic etc but nope, overnight ban with no consultation.

Now the WA government is talking about only allowing 5 guns for hunting and 10 guns for sport competitions per person . Might be time to move states ......

Misinformation
Totally agree with your assessment of the issues that law abiding firearms owners are facing.
It has been an unprecedented attack by a minister that is doing it solely for political ambition.
WA already has the strictest firearms laws in Australia, including calibre restrictions, magazine capacity restrictions, appearance restrictions, that is even if it complies in every other way, if it looks to scary its banned, folding stock restrictions, barrel length restrictions, ect ect.
The media has been at the forefront of the misinformation, and listing the motorplex firearm as a high powered sniper rifle is a good example. It was a 243 calibre tika hunting rifle, very common and would be on a par of a V6 white commodore in the scale of high powered cars.
Its the process, deliberate lieing and the line of public safely, when we have virtually no gun crime and most crimes involving guns are committed by criminals with black market unlicensed guns who don't care about the law changes that is the issue.

Interestingly with my
Interestingly with my analogy above of PETA assessing RFBL's which was tongue in cheek, I just read that WAFIC is saying that McGowan has given PEW a "key advisory role in Marine Park planning".
Holy shit, I don't know what else to say about that except there is little to no hope as long as there is no strong opposition (politically or to the proposal itself)

Manadatory health checks is a
Manadatory health checks is a good idea in principal only. In reality the resourses which are scarcely available to help those with actual mental ilnesses will be wasted talking to licenced firearms holders who if they want to keep there guns will just say what ever the shrink wants anyway. Suicide rates are increasing year on year and essentially the change that will take away some of the resources and mean 80000 licenced gun holders are less likely to get metal health help if they need it for fear of losing there firearms (note. the same firearms they likely use for reacreational activities that help with mental well being)

Yes this will kind of bring changes in on a silver platter for them. The rifles being registered to the address where the kid resides, one being a 243 and he obviously requires a mental assessment.Unsure how he accessed the weapons though.
This will almost certainly tar all us responsible shooters.Gun activists will be delighted !
