First day of cray season - freediving

So we were expecting crystal clear water after 2 days of low wind and low swell. Boy were we wrong. The ocean was very dirty and very surgey. Inshore visability was about 3-4metres. Thoughts of a lurking great white was in the back of my mind all day in light of recent sightings. Freediving was hard work being bashed around the ledges and caves.

We dove 3 spots, all west of Garden Island, crays were found shelting from the surge either deep under ledges, on the leeside of the surge (facing east) or deep in caves. Depths ranged from 14m, 6m and 4m.

No shed shells, no double shells or white crays yet.

16 crays, 2 freedivers and first bagout on my mates new dingy.
