Why do something like that on

Tue, 2012-04-10 21:29

Why do something like that on your holiday when you could spend the holiday diving?

I know Hookah Dive do SSI, and they have a scheme where you do a couple nights of book work online, then they condense the dive package to a weekend or something.

That way you could spend your holiday diving insteadof doing a course. I know what I'd rather do!

dive medical form

Tue, 2012-04-10 22:28

http://www.padi.com/english/common/courses/forms/pdf/10063-ver2-0.pdf

Not all doctors offer dive medicals, they range from $80-180 if they want to be bastards, I think the travel doctor in freo does them for 80$ but call your local and find out.

The medical has to be Diving Medical to AS 4005.1 1992.

And yes you can get tanks filled.

ok , i am assuming you have your ticket.

i read all that stuff but not too clear on some things. i have had an inner ear op before and totally deaf in 1 ear. in your opinion would that stop me from getting my ticket before i sign up for it.

To be honest, I dont know

Tue, 2012-04-10 22:44

PADI talk a good talk when it comes to accepting people who dont meet all the guidelines.  Im not concerned about being deaf in one ear, the inner ear op may have some issues when it comes to equalising.  Perhaps pop into a local dive store, with some information relating to what the ear op was or ask your GP next time you are in.  I Doubt you are the first person with an inner ear op to have applied, but simply I dont know enough to confirm or deny.

If you can duck dive and equalise while snorkelling

Tue, 2012-04-10 22:51

I cant see why it would matter too much at depth...

The SSI course is pretty much

Wed, 2012-04-11 07:03

The SSI course is pretty much the same as the padi opwn water which is the bnase scuba certification with any point. It would allow you to dive independently and get fills etc.

SSI, SDI/TDI, PADI, NAUI, AUSI, they're all just different ways of looking at the same thing.

Mate as long as you can

Tue, 2012-04-10 22:52

Mate as long as you can equalise using the valsalva manuvre, pinching your nose and then exhaling into you nose causing your ears to "pop" as in flying, you should be fine.

scuba diver or open water scuba diver?

Wed, 2012-04-11 00:50

Sounds like they're selling the PADI scuba diver course if its only 2 days, unfortunately this won't qualify you to dive independantly so pretty sure you won't be able to get your tanks filled either. Best to call the store and confirm.

PADI scuba diver is pretty much just discover scuba with a taste of training and all further diving must be supervised by a divemaster or instructor with a maximum depth of 12meters. would be a good holiday experience for coralbay if you only want see the reef.

if down the line you want to dive independantly, like till said why spend your holiday doing a course? you can usually do it cheaper in perth and spend your holidays diving at your own pace.

Just have to sign a medical declaration these days, if you answer yes to any questions then its a trip for a medical. unfortunately ear troubles will be a trip

aquaear_ if u can fly u can dive

Wed, 2012-04-11 07:10

If you have had ear problems make sure u get some aquaear from the chemist_ its an alcohol so helps you ears dry out quicker if u ha ve narrow tubes_ also great in the tropics_ stops ear infections like magic. With respect to doing ur course just make sure its NOT discover scuba or resort course. Hookah do ssi, mindarie dive  do padi_same same. I'd imagine business would be real quiet at moment so u might find someone can do a course suited to u locally before u go.
