First Metro Mackie

Last wednesdy a mate and mylf went for a troll for mackeral armed with gardies for bait and dead bait trolling rigs we were set.  We launched at daybreak and sailed out towards where we were going to fish which was a bait laden area less than a km from shore.

I set my first rod , downrigging with a sinker on a rubber band then looping around the mainline. I was in the process of setting the secomd rod when line started peeling fro. The already set rod, i set hooks and the fish ran then slowed and shook his head before bolting again.

After a 10 minute fight i had my first yak caught mackie on board. He was 141 cm long and i estimate him to be about 15 kgs.

We had been on the water for 5 mins before the fish struck

To say i was stoked is an understatement.

Well done on the catch, the yak isn't named theKon tiki by any chance, it looks like it could travel across any ocean.
