Hey guys, curious to know if anybody out there uses a shark shield on your yaks when you go out, if so what ones and can you rig a freedom 7 underneath them?

Yes lots of yakers use them
Freedom 7 are the popular choice and you need to make sure the electrodes are in the water.

You tube shark encounter
You tube shark encounter cockburn sound. A mate of mine last season, at the end you can see the shark coming in but shoots off quickly at the last minute. I would say the shark sheilds work, we dont go offshore without em. Better to have and never need it than not have it and wish you did. I run the freedom 7 and drop it through the scupper holes in the yak.

Shot boys
Wasnt sure if i was being over the top but like you said better to have n not need, that shark looked as if he was going in to investigate. What about floatation in kayaks say if a shark did happen to mouth your kayak n puntures it? The one i have would fill up n sink for sure.

You could probs foam fill
You could probs foam fill the hull i guess, never heard of it being done but cant see why it wouldn't work. My hobie has foam blocks in it to support the floor and im guessing would help with floatation. But i think just the action of the shark mouthing it would throw you off regardless. If it did puncture it i would say you'd have a bit of time before it fills up, if your out in the ocean you need all the safety gear wich includes flares and a bilge pump or bailing bucket, so id say inshore you'd be right if sharkie doesn't eat you that is.

I have a Freedom 7 on my Adventure Island at all times. The only times I turn it on are if I see a large shark or if I am fishing offshore at night, then it goes onas soon as I reach the fishing grounds.
