Fish Candy - SMASH CRABS HAVE ARRIVED!!!!!!

Fish Candy SMASH CRABS HAVE ARRIVED!!!!!!

WOW!!! These things look amazing, incredibly realistic looking, strong chemical sharpened hook and made from 10x stretch material these crabs are a WINNER!! Weighing in at 39 grams and 100mm at the widest point (legs) these things are a must have for shallow water demersals. Not only are they perfect for this snapper season (Cockburn) but northern species such as blue bone/spangled emperor/jacks etc will not be able to resist these tasty looking treats. Southern fish like Blue groper will be all over the black rock crab for sure and these new SP can either be worked vertically or cast and slow roll retrieve for a realistic walking action.

I wonder how these would go on elevator jig heads?

Are they specifically designed for shallow water fishing, or could you walk them along the bottom when drifting in deeper water? I'm thinking Dhuis, baldies etc here in Gero.

No reason

Can't see any reason why you couldn't run them on a paternoster dropper rig

Good point Scano

I have had good success with Zerek live shrimps on elevator jig heads in 30 plus metres on Dhus, trout, etc and can't see why these crabs wouldn't produce similar results.

Gadsy, they are designed for 5m - 20m shallow water demersals stuff. They are internally weighted so adding that to a elevator jig head or patternoster rig wont give it the best action & presentation. For deeper water we suggest running 3m of say 50-60lb flurocarbon leader or 60-80lb mono trace leader with a bean sinker (weight depends on depth/drift speed) fully crimped (so it doesnt run) say 2m away from the Smash Crab. This is like a drift bait rig but with a SP and will give the Smash Crab the best action & presentation for deeper water demersals ie 20-45m.

Dale they have been put aside for you mate and pop in Kirky, they're awesome.

They should be good from the kayak inshore and deadly across at the islands on baldies.

I would be interested to know how they put a breaking strain on

Thu, 2016-09-01 14:17

the hooks and what tests they do? Do the hooks straighten and bend and then break at 45kg or will they not flex until 45kg is reached. Is it done from the point of the hook ect ect??

Picked up the smash crabs from Oceanside today, these are facinating little things, wife reckons they'd make good ear rings. They have a weight in the bottom so they'll naturally sink upright, reckon they will get smashed on the drop if there's anything about. I've  already rigged mine up with 50lb fluorocarbon leaders about 2m long. Can't wait to give them a swim.

Smash Crab - Technique!

Tue, 2016-09-06 16:58

Ush - I've only used them once (gonna use them more often) but fish will eat them more so on the drop .... if you dont get a take on the drop then little twitches of the rod tip and a slow roll (wind) for a short time then re-cast!

The hook is very strong and I dont see any issue with hard fighting & teeth crushing fish!
