I think the pic is misleading, they don't look much like sweep IRL.

Not that tasty, I would say neighbourfish and maybe not the best neighbours either.

Interesting question sea-kem.  They are not related to sweep.  Traditionally, they have been considered as related to the boarfishes and surfperches (Pacific USA coast), but recent genetic work seems to lump them with the lutjanids (tropical sea-perches) and bream (including pink snapper) and interestingly the rubyfish (like this one http://fishwrecked.com/forum/japanese-rubyfish).  Probably stills lots more work needed to figure it out.
