Fish ID - Perth Metro Emperor???
Submitted by Mick C on Mon, 2014-04-14 18:33
Picked this one up off 3 Mile Reef on a floating bait in a burley trail. It seems to have all the characteristics of an emperor but I am no identification expert (it may not even be an emperor). I must say it looked like a spangled when it came up but in the photo it looks more like a blue lined (sorry about the photo quality and I should have taken one when it was landed). From looking at the ID descriptions, if it is an emperor it seems a long way south. It was a decent fish at 424mm though. Would be interested in a veiw on what species it is.

Looks to me
Like it is definitely a spangled emperor.
if so yes it is a long way further south than normal but still a cool capture.

I'm wondering if it's a blue lined emperor
AKA black snapper.
edit: mmm maybe a bit dark for blue lined.

Redmap Confirmed
Redmap has confirmed that the fish in the photo is a spangled emperor (Lethrinus nebulosus). Clearly caught right at the bottom of its geographic range.
