Western Red Scorpionfish
I think it's a Western Red Scorpionfish. Good eating apparently, but very poisonous spines. Personally, I get out the pliers, and get them back into the ocean ASAP :-)

obviously before the ban :S
i got spiked by one when trying to flick it with pliers trying to get the hook out while holding it over the side of the boat, spiked me in the thumb, didn't stop bleeding for a very long time and puffed up and went a purple color, felt like a constant sting for about 10 hours lol.. my most hated fish when i see it..

yep...
What 'groper down below ' said.
Easy as ...and the fish doesnt even wriggle around unlike like some .
If you want to keep him for eating just use your side cutters to cut off the dorsal spiles and then it is quiet easy to handle and fillet them.
Enjoy....
