Fish species reference
Submitted by Perfish on Thu, 2013-06-06 15:06
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good, complete fish species reference book. I have a couple already but have found that they are missing some of the species I've been catching (and in some cases unsuccessfully targeting).
Cheers in anticipation!

only two
For WA, you only need two to get started - the one Chris mentioned for the south and this one for the north

Just remember that no field guide is complete and there will be things you catch that are not illustrated. Also, things change - distributions, common names, scientific names, etc, but with those two books, you'll go a long way. For the record, they are written by now-retired colleagues of mine: Gerry Allen and Barry Hutchins both used to be in my job! We still work with them often.

Northern one
Agree with the Sea fishes of Southern Australia and if you are heading north the one to get is Marine Fishes of Tropical Australia and South East Asia by Gerry Allen
Edit, should have read Glenn's link first
