Nice looking rods. I'm not a believer in skull drgging - but are you not worried that you'll get burried with 4.5kg braid? Great sport though.

Yer Colin should be good fun if nothing else, try for some small ones first and work our way up. that 4.5kg line is quit strong , but them big dhuies sure can pull, will let you know how it go's.

Without being negative - or giving some one an inappropriate opportunity, I guess I'd be a bit worried about such light braid (in size fish demersal zones) causing a lot of line with patanosta rig (or whatever) hanging off a fish.

Sun, 2008-07-27 19:25

We use 12kg braid at the moment 30lb, and do not lose fish to bust offs. All the large dhuies are caught on 30lb with penn 850 reels .I am quite confident I can play a dhuie and get it to the boat ,a bust of will only happen on the coral, and that can happen with 100lb braid , Most fish we catch are in the 4-10kg range and should not be a problem .I can see your concern but we have been using the lighter line for some time, if a fish is played and swum to the top it could be caught on less. We will not continue to catch and lose fish, if we find the braid to thin.

After looking back at one of Jesse's comments. We do care about the fish and what effect fishing with light braid will have on the fish we catch, i could use 80-100lb braid and scull drag them to the top, throw them back with no line in tow, to float dead from the presure change. They do say hooks don't last long in salt water ,and should rust away within weeks. have taken on board your comments

cheers Paul

New kayak stick!

I use the 6to10kg with a sol3000 and 6kg braid. Stops most fish and i mean most fish! NOT FUN when a sambo grabs it! Great fun and quite easy to use, great when theres not much room on a boat. Youll have a ball!lol. Might have to join u guys one day for a bash with the kayak sticks.

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!

My post on the light line perhaps wasn't put in the right way. Not sure what was deleted and didn't see it, so I won't make assumptions.

I wasn't trying to have a shot or be negative about the light gear - where I was coming from was, more being interested in the ability to use lighter gear myself and if there was risk to the fish.

The sambo comment was attrempt at humour - not sarcasm.

Absoluely no offence, derogation or otherwise non positive persepective intended.

The coffee is now taking effect and I recall now, the deleted content. But I'll leave the above post in as (I hope) clarification of where I was coming from Laughing
