Fishing in Albany

heading down to albany for the first week of january staying at the kalgan river and have done plenty of fishing in the river and beach fishing at salmon holes, etc. but this time is the first with the boat so we will be planning to head out in the boat more often than not but dont know where to start and what to target. The boat is a 4m dinghy with a 25hp so will mainly be in oyster harbour and maybe head out into the sound in the weather is right

any tips, info, spots or even general areas for whiting or squid etc would be greatly appreciated

pm me any secrets spots if you dont want everyone knowing about them, but no worries if you want to keep your spots to yourself

cheers, commocean

also if anyone watched the fwa episode a few weeks ago where ryan was fishing for kgws in albany was that cheynes head like he mentioned, i hope not because thats a fair travel from the kalgan

once you go through the mouth out into the sound travel towards bent street carpark.about 200 metres of shore you will come into reed banks with sandy patches. there are usally a few boats there as its a local kg ground. If you like skippy go around to gull rock and berly up .

Also good Squiding

As Solly said and there is also good squid in king George sound along Middleton beach opposite the golf course. I have also done well on both whiting and squid just inside Prince Royal Harbor in the first bay on Vancouver Peninsula side, and more whiting on the outside from Vancouver Peninsula to Mistaken Island, you will see boats at all these spots. Having said that, the times I fished this area was winter.

They get a few squid off the emu point jetty at night which isn't far from green island so I guess there's a good chance. Also few nice crabs too

Try launching at hartmens it

Try launching at hartmens it goes pretty deep in close there. There is some good lumps and ground out from there. Your charts should show plenty of good rises and lumps for there around the little islands and out in the bay.

Hartmens is a beach launch out at Torbay.
