Fishing around Wyndham and the Mitchell Plateau Advice

My parents are heading up to do the canning stock route from South to North and will be spending some time after around Wyndham and the Mitchell Plateau.  My father can fish and wanted a rod and reel to take for when he reaches water.  A friend is loaning me a 8' Graphite 8-20lbs rod and I am hoping to pair it up with a 4000 size reel, perhaps a shimano symetre and 16lbs braid.  Dad doesnt want to catch monster fish, maybe just trevs and trout off the rocks/shore because they cant use huge fish, they want something they can eat and not waste. So, does anyone have any spots or advice? I think because he doesnt want to worry about bait I reckon lures up to 40gm are the go. So I was hoping to be able to send him up with a few halco twisties, x-rap slashbaits and some poppers, maybe a richter plug style lure too?  What is reasonable leader lbs and terminal gear?

Any help would be appreciated!

Bryan,

when is your dad heading there. Does your old man have a tinnie with him? Wyndham has big tides, muddy water and big crocs! I can give you some advice and a few spots. First bit of advice use bushman all day everyday.

They wont have one as the fishing is at the end of the canning stock route:/

They are leaving this weekend, and will be in wyndham in approx 5-6 weeks.  I believe they will be fishing landbased.  Any advice would be welcome, pm if you would like.  Unfortunately I wont be going on this trip as tafe starts soon.  But I would like to kit the old man out with 5-10 lures and tackle to suit so any advice there would be appreciated.

Halco poltigeist black/gold

Halco crazy deep mullet

Halco Laser pro red/white

Cultiva anything

Skitter pop

Take bushman, don't stand close to the water and  don't expect too many Barra this time of year. Threadies and Black jew from boat ramp and jetty in wyndham.

Mitchell will be better for other species and pretty much anything shiny will work.

I used the Gundog 7' 8-20lbs

On Sunday with Flangies, he was using the prodigy I believe.  Both rods accounted for plenty of skippy to 30cm, with the gundog getting two double headers of decent skippy into the boat.  Later on both rods were also used for squiding and proved light enough to also cast the jigs, whipping action and a boat limit of squid and cuttlies in under an hour.

Very nice of the guys to loan the Agress one to my father, We appreciate it!
