Fishing from a Boat Licence.

Most of us know it comes into effect in March. It is also common knowledge that although only one "FBL" is required to be on the vessel, only one individual bag limit can be taken per licence. So, for example, three fishers + 1 licence = 1 snapper and 1 dhufish.

My question is, how many times have you and your mates, over a cold one, have suddenly decided to go fishing the next day, but you've only got the one "FBL"? Post office/fisheries is closed, and yes, it is quite possible that not everyone has access to a PC/Internet/Credit Card in order to obtain a licence online.

Would it be possible for the skipper to buy 3 or 4 "FBL's" in his/her name so therefore anyone who comes out on the boat "spur of the moment" is covered? Obviously reimbursement for bait/fuel/etc could also be made to cover the extra cost.

I was in a fisheries office the other day and meant to ask then but forgot so I thought I'd run it past you mob and see if anyone's got to the bottom of this.

Doubt it.

I doubt you could do that as the licence would have to be in someones name and if the person named on the licence is not on board then I suppose it would be looked at as if the actual person fishing does not have a licence. it's not a licence for the boat to be fished from more a licence for a person to fish from that boat. It's like saying can I buy 3 licences so I can take 3 bag limits if you know what I mean.

There is no point taking 3

There is no point taking 3 people you can still only take 4 fish. If you paid for your licence you should be able to take 2 fish each it should be 2fish per licence

Think you maybe wrong there

Think you maybe wrong there Bill. My understanding is that you could have 10 on board , all with licences, giving you 20 fish but with a limit of 2  dhuies with the exception of charter operator being able to take 6 dhuies. There is no "boat limit" as such apart from dhuies. And to answer the original question, each licence is for individuals. $30 isn't a huge amount of splash per year if you know that a mates got a boat and there could by the odd chance of getting out in it once or twice a year.

Cheers Mick
