Fishing: FLW Outdoors Foxtel
Watching tv this morning early while getting acclimatised to Sydney/Australian Time again after 5 months in Canada and founf the FLW outdoors 2011 wrap up on fox. Im a bit surprised to see these guys using 60-80lbs braid and outfits to land 10lbs fish and talking about fishing during the spawning times.
What do you guys think about the sport fishing aspect of this type of fishing? Is it sports fishing to be using 60-80lbs braid to fish in weeds, casting 3-4 mts from the boat and then virtually hoik the fish clean into the boat rather than using a net? Then putting them into live tanks for display at weigh ins, then at the weigh in, holding live fish from the mouth or gills for the appreciation of the crowd?
What about fishing during the known spawning times for Bass?
Also the River Monster guy using some huge outfits to catch rare/endangered species ?

I thought most of the time the river monster guy uses the captures to bust myths but also for research and releases them where he can. Like with a few of the freshwater stingrays he has caught, he takes samples of the venom.

River monsters is some of the worst fishing tv ever. First place would go to catch and cook. Man I hate that guy.

whats wrong with river monsters? It's only a semi-fishing show in my opinion, he's not fishing for the fun/sport of it, its generally just the only way to get a good look at the fish in question. Jelle, correct me if i'm wrong but I don't remember ever seeing him keep anything either, let alone cook it? you're not thinking of Xtreme fishing are you? that guy is a douche, hardly releases anything and is rude to locals.

i think we need to take a look at what they are doing over there and take it on over here i watch the flw its typical american hyped off stuff but good to watch
and there enviromental stuff they do in these big comps is good for the fisheries over there even if catching spawning fish
i watched a few shows on how they depleted there salmon over there. Now its a billion dollar investment to get them back they have gone as far as knocking down massive dam walls so the salmon can make there 900mile journey back up into the moutnains to spawn or breed
they even have a huge fish trap set up and a barge that they transport the spawning fish by barge if there is a dam in the way they slowly think it is working
they tried farming and releasing into the wild but it didnt work becuase the fish returned to where they were released not back to there spawning grounds
some of the money they spend on big fishing projects is amazing been some good viewing on austar lately mainly on ch608 ch610 ch622 ch620 same channel just few hours later
FLW tournament is on ch205 ch505 occasionally
