Depends on what you are

Depends on what you are chasing. There is plenty of herring and whiting in the harbour and is great fun for the kids if they are fishing as well. At night time there is always a few squid around the jetties in the harbour just go to a jetty with lights on the end of it. When its not windy fish the rockwall on sundown for the occasional tailor and mulloway when its dark. Hope that gives you somewhere to start

Not sure where sandy cove

Not sure where sandy cove is. can't say if have fished there. I have fished at North Head and Catalina bay which is 4WD access to the north of the town. Very good holes in amungst the reef here. Have pulled some big green back tailor from there with poppers and floating mulies. have also heard of some small baldies and snapper being taken in the sand holes between the reef but i don't know how true that is

Jurien

Thu, 2008-01-24 14:31

I just returned from Jurien on Sunday having spent a week up there.

Land based, the jetty at the caravan park is as good as any spot.  With Daylight saving, you need to get a spot by 7.00pm I reckon.  The tailor were moving in at dusk and into dark.  Baitcast whole mulies and if you drop small baits close to the jetty you will catch plenty of just legal skippy.

The attraction at the jetty at night is the resident sea lion.  He`ll chase every fish when hooked. Visits every night at feeding time.

If the southerlies are not blowing too hard, you can try Island Point (4WD) for tailor.  We saw people there every night.

Hope this helps

Went to Sandy Cape or Cove

Fri, 2008-01-25 22:54

Went to Sandy Cape or Cove whatever it is called, the spot slightly north of Jurien Bay.. Not a very good experience, we managed to get into a couple of tailor up on the cliffs but nothing big, lots of buff bream and absolutely nothing at night along the beach. If i was you i'd stick to the jetty or some of the other recommended places.
Maybe we were just unlucky had the wind blowing hard the whole time as well. If you're staying there a few days try the jetty first.

Cheers,
