Something for the land based guys to keep an eye on in case they try it in WA.
Will effect those who chase snapper and YTK there. Even the salmon fishes will have to go to small hooks.

more kicks in the A@@ for us
more kicks in the A@@ for us fishos. if the fishos are fishing for sharks between them hours , the sharks will still be there during daylight hours as they know there will be a feed somewhere around., so what is the diff. The sharks will be attracted to the scent of burley and go for the source and not a swimmer which may be well away from the area

Just read that on Google News
Once the media get hold of that ,thats what we will be facing soon especially in light off the recent Tiger caught of Floreat Beach and the other Tigers in recent weeks.
No hooks bigger than 5/0 , what clown decided on that.

Shame
I can see reasons for burly to be limited at some popular beaches but that hook size thing is a stupidity, I have caught many sharks on small hooks and I can't see what it achieves.

That is just Crazy, I can
That is just Crazy, I can understand the bait restriction and no attracting them with berely but if they are already swimming past they are already there. I fish for sharks all the time at swimming beaches, I don't attract them except for a single whole fish bait and I've caught 11 in under 2 months!! If people actually knew how many swam past them while they where in the water I'm sure a lot less people would swim!!
always looking for a new challenge!!

Crazy
Again we are faced with stupid rules or laws that no one has the resources to enforce.
I joke to all my friends that soon i won't be able to go fishing without legal representation. Ha Ha the jokes on me it seems to be coming true.
No more than 50mm hooks, no camping, no fires , no motor bikes, no dog's ,no fishing , no 4X4's , no walking, no children , no entry , NO F%cK all.
Sorry to have a rant, but i'm getting tired of being told what i cant do because a few people do the wrong thing.

It's because the government
It's because the government wants to control every aspect of our lives, all of these things are escapes from their rat race and so they ban it in order to keep us under thumb

Burleying for anything and
Burleying for anything and using any bait other than fish (including crab nets etc), near the shore has been banned in SA for years
I am from Adelaide and this was all brought about because a few sharks (bronzies) were landed on the beach and then let go and people complained saying they were concerned about the sharks being burleyed in close. pure ignorance as the sharks are there anyway and naturally are following schools of fish along the shore during summer as they have had for many years. Burleying and using any bait other than fish/squid close to shore has been banned for years so they are not being burleyed in. Fisheries recently confirmed the metro shark fishers were adhering to the rules regarding this. A few complaints to pollies and this is now what we face. I haven't fished for sharks from metro jetties/shore for 25 years so it doesn't affect me but I still see this as ignorant crap from pollies and joe public's with no idea.
When was the last time someone was attacked by a bronzie off metro adelaide - there hasn't been an attack from a bronzie in metro waters in 30-40 years at least yet the article says the "experts" can't agree on whether this activity increases the risk of attack!!
The pollie involved states no one catches snapper off the jetties so they wont be affected by the hook size limit (No wire allowed, no hook allowed longer than 50mm or gape wider than 18mm - which I figure is about a 2/0 on the 18mm gape) - what crap its well known that you can catch large snapper off henley, grange and other jetties during storms so a kick up the bum for the general angler as well. What about mullies or even Salmon etc (have also banned any ganged hooks unless joined by mono).
Russ you'd be right about the sharks being attracted away from swimmers - 30 years ago I used to fish for sharks off Grange Jetty every weekend during summer, we used to set our rods hang a 4litre bottle of tuna oil over the side and punch a hole in it to drip out slowly. Then on hot days we used to jump off the end of the jetty and swim (next to where the tuna oil was dripping in) to cool off whilst waiting for a run. We were never worried and figured any shark coming up the slick would take the bait first. I still have both my arms and legs too.
Also remember doing a night dive off Rapid bay jetty. we first walked out to check things out and on the way back to the car to collect our dive gear, 3 guys walked past with shark rods and a few litres of tuna oil. We did the dive without any problems (but I did sneak up behind my mate and grab his fin and shook it hard just to give him the jeebies) :-)
Our state labour goverment has also announce it will be making an announcement on duck hunting shortly but won't be making it until after by-elections are held. They have also put a hold on marine park decisions as well - I know who won't be getting my vote......
What next
Cheers
