Fishing last night 25/6/2011

Went down last night to wet a line at a local beach NOR. Weather was good, water was warm and not very choppy at all.

First cast - dropped a fish, 2nd cast - dropped again - and now I was fairly grumpy - realised my setup was wrong and changed it quickly - first cast out and caught a nice tailor of 44cm - this on my heavy gear with a Toruim 30. Took my light gear (Toruim 14) and cast out about 80mt. Put my rod in its rodholder and when I turned around she screamed off. Had about a hard attack. Lifted rod out and slowly applied more drag and set the hooks. Brought her in to about 20mt offshore when she turned again and took another run of about 10mt, then all over. A nice gummy shark 110cm - and my 1st. Thanks to Reese who pointed out that it was a gummy - as I was not entirly sure.

Kept the tailor for the pan, released the gummy to fight another day.

Also caught a herring on a size 5 hook - who said the hooks are to big! All in all a great night with a lot of activity in the water. Went home when it started raining at about 11pm.

Cheers

Just congratulating you Blou Walvis firstly on the tailor and secondly for releasing the Gummy as i find most GS.'s are full of young this time of year with a rack of eggs ready to go.

Thanks Howard - this one was a male - but I am not into eating GS. Like my bread and butter fish instead -  like tailor and mullo's / snapper ect. Love the fighting ability of these GS. For their size great fun.

Poor old herring actually had a go for 3 seconds ha ha - say the 60pd leader and toruim 30 was a tat out of its league - was funny when I reeled it in and here this poor bugger was hanging on a 5' hook!! Never expected that. LOL!
