Fishing locations between Karratha - broome
Submitted by oldsalty on Tue, 2023-07-04 15:34
Hey everyone,
Found myself in Karratha with six weeks of free time before being booked in at locations south of here, can't complain, want to head up to cape leveque and back but am very unfamiliar with this patch of coastline,
Looking for any info on where to stop on the way for a week or so? Or stuff at Dampier peninsula ?Got a 4.5 m tinnie with a 50 on the back. Anything I'm looking at booking is obviously a bit short notice, point Samson booked out for a while etc
Got a third wheel for beach launching but the missus has no idea (new to the ocean), boat ramps be handy,
cheers guys,
any info much appreciated

If you're into camping then
If you're into camping then Cape Keraudren. Good ramp and access to great fishing

Dampier has a lot of
Dampier has a lot of protection from the islands for a small boat with plenty of spot in between if willing to look.

I dont believe cape Leveque
I dont believe Cape Leveque does though Gnylmarung has good beach launching.
Pender Bay has a 'boat ramp' which is (was) a horrendously steap rocky hillside onto a very boggy beach...or it was when we were there.
I may be wrong but it may be far too tidal for a boat ramp and if there was one, it would need to be 1km long to hit the water at low tide. The investment for a community would be unfesable.
You can launch off the beach at Barn Hill though i recall it was pretty soft but we just had an inflatable and set it up on the beach and carried it down. That was sketchy in rolling chop.

I've always wanted to try
I've always wanted to try out behind depuche island at balla balla. I've heard some good story's from out behind there. I reckon your tinny would be ideal for that trip. You would need to pick the tides as it does get very shallow out the front there. I know from experience and had to wait for the high tide.
Get busy living, or get busy dying!

We spent a night there in 2021. Nice spot.
I recall the track heading in being quite soft and a bit hectic when coming across someone going the opposite way. They may have improved it but it was single lane with very soft shoulders.

Just an updatedid 7 days at
Just an update
did 7 days at pender bay, absolutely magic scenery, fished the rock bàr land based in the middle and hooked a huge fish on a metal but just couldn't slow him down even on heavy gear, eventually he reefed me. Wind blew for afew days then finally got the boat out for 2 days in glass off conditions, unfortunately to my surprise the ocean was very quiet, no birds, bait schools , plenty of whales up close, amazing, fishing was slow, undersized Mackies and tuna about, finally hooked a big fish, long fight saw a nice long silver slab in the depths, solid Spanish I thought, yes! Finally, redemption fish
but no , what surfaced was a giant stinky barracuda, ur kidding! anyway plenty of boats in the water, most I think from Scotty's camp around the corner, not as an untouched location as i might have thought,
had 7 days booked in lombadina , closer inspection I found no boat launching allowed and limited access to the coast for fishing, ie only a certain part of the beach access to the points north and south not allowed, so I canceled, no refund, oh well!
now at Bananna well for afew days then heading to port smith
hopefully get a bit more luck with the fishing gods but the scenery up here is so good, cant complain
