Fishing off Mandurah

 Hello to all

Pretty new to the Boat fishing world, I know its a question that not a lot of people like to answer but where are some good spots off Dawesville to catch some fish, do I need to go far out or just fish the reefs and find me some fish.

All quiet from the south

Sun, 2018-04-29 00:30

 G'day Mate.

Seems all my southern cousins are pretty quiet about spots off Dawsville so i will give you some tips from a guy who has only fished there once in my life.

First up some info from you would help the others on here have an idea where to start sending you. What size boat, type of equipment onboard and your general boating experience? Dont want to send you 40nm out in a 12ft tinny. Having a sounder will make your life a lot easier.

What type of fish are you after? Whiting, Tuna, Salmon or the reef dwelling demersals?

Now for my killer spot that i have fished once. Head north of the cut to the point of Falcon bay. Head out from the beach until just before you hit the reef line. I'm assuming it's reef because we had no sounder but there were a few cray pots visable. Cracker spot for sand whiting and the odd flatie. Also hooked a squid there on whiting gear so must be a touch of sea grass around.

Almost nobody will give you exact spots to go but if you follow along here and read between the lines, ask questions etc you will get a general idea of depth the fish are at, time of year to be targeting species and you might even pick up an experienced deckie to go out with.

There is a search function on the left of the screen that can answer most of your questions and a dive into old posts can keep you entertained for days.

Ohh and i have to tell you. If there is no photo, it is just a fishermans tale.

Good luck BB

Merv

Artificial reef

Sun, 2018-04-29 01:00

Theres supposed to be an artificial reef about midway between The Cut and Mandurah around the 27 metre mark, from memory.

Never fished it myself but its been in the water a couple of years so should be something hanging around it by now.

Google Mandurah artificial reef and the co-ords should come up

Plenty of good spots down that way if you put in the time

Good luck.

For demersals fathom at dawn

For demersals fathom at dawn or dusk. If your starting to sound around deeper due west of the cut 28-32 metres would be a good starting point and put in a lot of time!

we were in the same boat

Sun, 2018-04-29 15:16

we were in the same boat ourself not long ago. all i can suggest is study your charts and check out any lumps or contour lines . thats what we did and have found kg spots and others that hold anything to foxies to dhuies. were out of the marina. you dont need to go too far out. the 30 mtr contour is a good starting point but there is plenty of sand whiting to be had in the shallower water,. hope you have some luck like we have. we did get a few spots given to us but havnt had to try them yet so the fish are there just keep looking you will find them

just a suggestion

The Faulkner Family have given you some sound advice. What I'd suggest is you get a chart covering the area you want to fish in, lay it out on the kitchen table.

Then just sit and look at all the major reef areas shown on the chart and surmise if that reef extended on what line would it follow. Remember that not all the outcrops and small patches of reef are depicted on charts.

A lot of people get in their boats and do a bolt for deep water and pass over some very good fishing spots purely to get out deep because this is were the good fish inhabit right..wrong there are some very good fish to be had if you just do a bit of home work on looking at charts and using a bit of "I wonder if" and remember, if the chart shows the symbol for waves break in this area stop, wait a while and look at the area and let the ocean show you what if any are the dangers of fishing in this area.

Looking forward to your first post with pictures be it whiting or the big one that didn't get away

thats prety much how we found our spots. pick an area off the charts but dont just fish that lump have a look around in the area. we have found an area for kgs that covers a quite a large area that also hold dhuie b/ass and so far small pinks.

we have only gone deeper tham 40 mtrs once and we have landed a feed every time.
