Fishing Rod Advice
My amazing Wife decided to treat me this xmas and went out and bought me a $230 fishing rod which is a Penn Ocean Assassin 621MH 6'2 PE 2-5 on the advice of the bloke at Getaway who uses the same rod.
It feels bloody nice to hold buuut she didn't realise I already have a 5'2 PE3-4 Daiwa Monster Mesh with an 8000 Stradic and a 7' PE2 Daiwa Catalina with a 5000 Biomaster.
I use my Catalina combo for drift baiting with a size 5 bean sinker and working placcies and microjigs as well as trolling and I use the Monster Mesh for dropping baits as well as working the bigger jigs around the 90-180g mark.
I'm thinking of two options:
1) Keep the Ocean Assassin as a dedicated jigging rod and whack a light 6000?? reel on it to make jigging for a couple of hours a lot more comfortable as the Monster Mesh combo is pretty short and heavy.
2) Take the rod back and grab a PE 5-6 rod and whack as 10-12k reel on it as I'm starting to venture out into the 40s now and plan to starting hitting Direction Bank.
I'm leaning toward option 1 as I'm increasingly getting into jigging and fishing out of Hillarys all I am finding so far is flat coral so I am yet to get bricked in a cave from the handful of Dhus I've managed to pull up.
Cheers JF

Hey
Mate we fish direction bank alot out from.mindarie in the 40 to 50m mark and i have always used a hots stilletto rod rated pe 1-3 with a stella 4k with pe 2 braid and never had a problem loosing fish etc so your rod will be perfect for the job and if im having trouble holding bottom and need a bigger sinker i use a swage imortal pe 3-5 with a stella 6k and that is oerfect no need to take the rod back it will be perfect good luck but an engel is always nice too
wont catch em sitting at home!

I would relegate the monster
I would relegate the monster mesh for a designated Octa rod.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

That's a pretty good call
That's a pretty good call dodgy.
Went in to the store to look at Waeco fridges after my missus bought me a quinoa salad at the pub and I picked up the Shimano Type J which I love and is the rod I was going to get before my Catalina popped up half price. Gonna take my Stradic in tomorrow to see how it balances with the S594 with a view to upgrading the xmas pressie and retiring the Monster Mesh until I upgrade my reel later on down the track. Was also looking at the Deep Jig 200 and Assassin Jigmaster too so will see how that balances out as well.

That esculated quickly. The
That esculated quickly. The Tackleworld specials were too enticing and I ended up getting the Shimano Type J PE3 and am going to whack a 5000 Biomaster on it and use the MM combo as my bait/octa jig combo ... yet another combo for the rack.
Cheers for the input lads.
