Fishing Sydney Landbased

Hello All,

Im in Sydney for the next two weeks attending a wedding and am staying north of Sydney in Dee Why.  I have my rods and some gear here and am wondering if there are any places people can recommend for landbased fishing.  I went past Mosman and the Spit yesterday which looked pretty promising.  I dont mind fishing the harbour, or the ocean if there are some nice groynes or jetties. I may even look into a road trip to have a crack for some freshwater fishing also.

What kind of species are out there, and what rigs, baits or lures are worth a crack?

Going to get my licence today and have a read through, thank in advance for any advice !

Bryan

Plenty of options around

Plenty of options around there mate.

Driving from Sydney towards Dee why just before the spit bridge, there are a couple of council car parks. Park in any of the three (and pay the fee) Walk along the rock walls that run the whole length of the park land and arouund past teh back of the houseboats (looking at the water you will be going left) Plenty of spuid on the mid to high tide and just behind the boats you can throw a lightly weighted peeled prawn for brean, casting lures you can get flatties.

All around the rock headlands between Manly and Dee Why and beyond (watch the waves) you can chuck lures and baits for tailor (maybe a little late in the year) kingies bream blackfish etc. Ask at the local tackel shops like Harbord Bait and tackle etc. They will give you some tips on rigs etc

Narabeen lakes, which is just north of Dee Why is always good,. Just park somewhae and walk along the grass land throwing lures or soft plastics for flathead etc, especially on the seaward side of the bridge, all that area is good.

Beach fishing is the same as WA

CLifton Gardens in Mosman there is a jetty which is a good deep water spot but is very very crowded

Anyway thats a start I guess
