Heh guys,
Need some tips of possible.
Had a boat for over 6 months and fished the 30-40m mark out from Cockburn Sound several times, but as yet not managed to catch anything of note !
Fishing paternoster with occie and also tried jigging, but no joy.
Sounded around but not found much to get excited about
Struggling a bit so would value any advice
Also when I jigged the line was at an angle due to the affect of the drift, making it difficult, is there anyway to avoid this problem.
Cheers!

For a start get rid of the occy, If this was the best bait going aorund, everyone would use it exclusively. People use mulies or other alternatives as a rule because they are better than baits like occy. It always amused me when working in the fishing industry when people asked " what is was the best bait for ... " We would tell them a bait like mulies for example but they would often reply with ..."what about occy " Our answer was , yes we have occy if you want it. They would but the Occy and then come back complaining that they didnt catch anytting. Sure occy stays on the hooks well, but so does a piece of leather ! and its rarely the best option !
Other than that , you have one of 2 problems. You are fishing where there are no fish or you are fishing with the wrong methods. Im guessing the places you are fishing hold few fish, becaue as a rule , if your bait is on the bottom and there are some fish around ,,,you will catch some of them. Assuming your sounder is OK , maybe you need to spend more time looking for signs on your sounder that fish are present, That may mean hours/ days slowly cruising around watching the sounder for any signs. Or keeping a general watch on the direction other boats are heading and then use this as an indicator of productive areas. Not the same as pinging. In time you will have a selection of spots you can try on a given day and hopefully one of these will pay off for you.

re: the drifting problem, get
re: the drifting problem, get a sea-anchor, its basically a parachute for ur boat that slows u down. You'll want to find bottom structure like lumps and drop-offs etc, and yer hopefully some fish showing up on ur sounder.

i would be using the
i would be using the calafornian squid over occy any day. but fresh fish fillets are the bast. as far as location goes , the area you would be fishing is fairly flat with a few lumps scattered around. study your charts and have a look for rises which are easily diostinguishable with the contour lines close together.

Occy is good if it is
Occy is good if it is skinned and presented well. Don't just leave it balled up on the hook like a piece of snot.
cheers
