Fishing with a toddler

Hi guys.  I want to take my young fella out fishing for the first time, he's almost 4.  Any LB spots you could recommend that are good for him, and a good chance of pulling out a fish?  (I reckon I've got about a 10 minute window of concentration, so this is make or break ) Pref metro area.

Thanks.

TJ

Marina

I started my kids on the wharf on the western side of Mindarie marina. Pretty quiet there most of the time and always a fish of some sort. Remember, little kids don't know blowies are considered pests!

Unless he is confident

Unless he is confident climbing rocks, I'd be looking at the river mate. Not many LB spots NoR except the disabled ramp at Hillarys where you are all but guarenteed to catch fook all.

I take my 2yo out on the boat

Thu, 2016-03-10 13:03

I take my 2yo out on the boat a fair bit and trusting there is an Ipad around with giggle and Hoot on, she waves in and out of fishing interest.

Last time we went out, she caught a trumpeter and was stoked at catching an "ish"

Few whiting, blowies and silver bream in close near the horse beach in Kwinana. Depends on where you live really.

Best thing when my kids were 5 on the boat was a bucket or the live bait tank. They enjoyed their new pets for a while, said their goodbyes and caught some more pets. Hours of entertainment. Also cut the sharp point of a hook and get them to put their own bait (prawns) on. They liked that almost as much as the fishing and a few small fish still stayed attached.

I rigged up a simple poly pipe circulation system in my bait holder for holding live bait. Didnt think of it as a mini aquarium

Used to take my kids to Riverton a lot, mullet for bait, almost non stop on little bream, keeps them interested and we've pulled a few out of there over 35cm which keeps me happy too
