fishing trip start of april

Hi all I have a fishing trip planned with 2 mates at the start of April where we plan to spend week in kalbarri and a week in shark Bay. None of us are anywhere near experienced fisherman and we have been warned to be very careful when launching in kalbarri. Can anyone give us some tips on launching at kalbarri and the risks involved. Also any good suggestions for fishing each area would be appreciated?

Conditions should be getting
Conditions should be getting good by then. Less likelihood of a pumping Seabreeze or big swell.

Kalbarri can definitely be
Kalbarri can definitely be hazardous. There seems to be photos of boats coming to grief every year. It's not the launching that's difficult though, it's getting from the river to the ocean.
My advice would be to spend some time overlooking the area from the top of Chinaman's the day before you head out in the boat. Get an understanding of where the swell and waves come from and when to head north. Understand where you need to get to to be clear of the swells. Ideally, watch what other boats are doing.
Once you're in the boat, stop in the river and watch the swells forming and dissipating in the channel. Wait til you feel you can predict the break in the swells. Take your time assessing the conditions. Don't go until you are very confident. Once you've decided to go, go quickly, don't muck around.

Coming back in is just as tricky.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

For how to with the river mouth.
Don't run the river mouth until you personally chat with the Sea Rescue about doing it. They are right beside the river mouth lunch ramp. I still get the shakes after doing it even in very low swell. Would never forgive myself if I put my son the rocks. Put your life jackets on before you cross, and get land based bearings for the return trip to start the crossing in the correct area.
We found Tangles a terrific help and nice bloke. His enthusiasm is contagious, as is his generosity.
Im looking forward to Tangles land based fishing safairs.
