Fitting new hydrastar hydraulic brakes to boat trailer.

Recently purchased all new hydrastar electric over hydraulic brake system.

Prior to purchasing the boat the trailer had the accuator stolen.

Being the way I am im replacing the lot with new breakaway system and in cab controller.

Done a bit of searching on the forums and from what I gather the installation in pretty straight forward.

Does anyone have any experience fitting/wiring up the same system.

In cab controller is a teckonsha P3.

Instructions for fittment look straight forward however just chasing advice and if anyone has had previous experience installing the same equipment.

not so much troubles but some things to be aware of (pretty sure its the 100 also)

1/ If the brake controller wire brake sensing wire is connected to the stop light rather than the brake pedal switch, when you manually activate the trailer brakes neither the brake lights come on nor the cruisecontrol disengages.

On the 200 its pretty hard to connect to it.

Kempy is the expert on this though, Im sure he will pop in and give you some info. Auto sparky

Yeh easy easy, Just don't forget the hotwire!!

100 series should be pretty straight forward as its not stupid CANBUS just remember to mount it away from the any airbags. Which is hard in some modern cars now!

got the exact setup myself Mitch, I've actually got the auto sparky outside fitting the teckonsha P3 to the new cruiser.

The Hydrostar is pretty easy to fit and wire, I just re-did mine not long ago.

One thing I did which has made life a hell of a lot easier is fitted a water proof junction box with a block of terminators, works a treat and much easier to diagnose any wiring issues.

Will give it a go this weekend.

Like the idea behind the water proof junction box will be doing the same.

Thanks to all for the tips.

Fitted a redark remote system

Tue, 2014-04-08 18:35

Fitted a redark remote system in a 100 series today makes it much neater and no ugly box on the dash but if you already have a p3 go with that. You can either pick up the brake wire from the switch or in the plug at the back with the trailer plug also like said above make sure you also run a hot wire to the plug or it wont work.
